Album Review #1 - Alexisonfire s/t - 13/03/25

                              Album cover

Alexisonfire's first album, "Alexisonfire", was released on October 1st of 2002 through the record label Distort Entertainment. It's an early 2000's canadian screamo/post hardcore classic that many know and love. The band at the time consisted of: Wade Macneil, Dallas Green, George Pettit, and Jesse Ingelevics. The cover shows two catholic schoolgirls about to get in a knife fight. Most of the band members were freshly out of highschool, some still attending. The album truly represents the raw and cathartic emotions a teenager would feel, such as anger, heartbreak, depression, and solitude, Just to name a few. The most notable parts of this album are the vehemently expressed vocals by George Pettit, especially during the 8th track, The Kennedy Curse. I also cannot forget the solacing singing of Dallas green, The distinctive, heart- aching singing of the 10th track, Little Girls Pointing And Laughing.

The Instruments are a whole other thing to break down, Wade Macneil's Guitar playing is phenomenal. A seasoned example would be the 7th track, Where No One Knows. The entire song has magnificent playing that is very recognizable to 2000's catchy metalcore chord progressions. On another note, Jesse Ingelevics's drumming adds even more monumental grooves to each song he demolishes the kit to. Such as the 3rd track, Adelleda (the unmastered version)Ingelevics manages to keep a steady rythm while effortlessly experimenting with fills and techniques, though still being connected to Green's and Macneil's guitar shredding.

And now for my personal favorite tracks off this album in no particular order:

  • A Dagger Through The Heart Of St Angeles
  • Adelleda
  • The Kennedy Curse
  • Little Girls Pointing And Laughing
  • Where No One Knows
  • Pulmonary Archery

I cannot express how much i relate to this album, but for anyone interested in more classic screamo this is definetly a gateway album that should be listened to.

⭐ 9.4/10 ⭐
