hellooooo moldy fishers
I thought this would be a cool place to share my CD collection. The problem is that I have amassed too many, so I have to split it into a few parts. The first part is emo and emo-adjacent stuff, which has been the main focus of my collecting recently.
I will show all the CDs, list them, and then show a few highlights individually.
In alphabetical order, with the year of this issue's release, not necessarily the original release year:
At the Drive-In - Relationship of Command (Fearless Records, 2004)
Braid - The Age of Octeen (Mud Records, 1996)
Cap'n Jazz - Shmap'n Shmazz (Man With Gun, 1995)
Cursive - Domestica (Saddle Creek, date unknown)
Jets to Brazil - Orange Rhyming Dictionary (Jade Tree, 1998)
Kerosene 454 - Came By to Kill Me (Slowdime/Dischord, 1996)
Mineral - The Power of Failing (crank!, 1996)
Moss Icon - Lyburnum (Vermiform, 1997)
Moss Icon - Complete Discography (Temporary Residence Ltd, 2019)
PEE - Now, More Charm and More Tender (March Records, 1996)
PEE - The Roaring Mechanism (Absolutely Kosher, 1997)
Rites of Spring - End On End (Dischord, 1991)
Sunny Day Real Estate - Diary (Sub Pop, 1998)
Sunny Day Real Estate - How It Feels to Be Something On (Sub Pop, 1998)
Taken - Between Two Unseens (Goodfellow Records, 2004)
Texas Is The Reason - Do You Know Who You Are? (Revelation Records, 1996)
The Van Pelt - Stealing From Our Favorite Thieves (Gern Blandsten, 1996)
The Van Pelt - The Van Pelt (Art Monk Construction, 1997)
The Wrens - Abbott 1135 (Ten23 Records, 1997)
Now for the highlights:
Cap'n Jazz - Shmap'n Shmazz (Man With Gun, 1995)
This is tied for the most I've ever paid for a CD ($40), but well worth it. I snagged this from Discogs a few months ago. Definitely one of the highlights of my collection, it is such a forward-thinking album that we still hear remnants of its influence in fourth- and fifth-wave emo bands today.
Mineral - The Power of Failing (crank!, 1996)
One of the iconic albums of second wave emo. "Gloria" and "If I Could" are standouts of the entire genre for me, and this album is getting harder and harder to find for a good price.
Moss Icon - Lyburnum (Vermiform, 1997)
Moss Icon - Complete Discography (Temporary Residence Ltd, 2019)
If I had to hypothetically throw away emo bands until there was only one left, the most emo of them all, it would be Moss Icon. Pure emotion, creativity, and innovation within the hardcore punk genre. I only bought the discography reissue because the "original" release had an alternate (and inferior) mix of one of my favorite songs, Kick the Can.
PEE - Now, More Charm and More Tender (March Records, 1996)
PEE - The Roaring Mechanism (Absolutely Kosher, 1997)
Two of my favorite albums of all time, until recently I called it a life goal to find even one of them in physical format. Through a lot of investigation and messaging random people I was able to snag the first album, and while I was opening the package of that one, I checked Discogs to find that someone else was selling a copy of The Roaring Mechanism. Well now I have both. These albums are both incredibly important to me.
The Wrens - Abbott 1135 (Ten23 Records, 1997)
Another holy grail for me, something I never thought I would find until it happened. It's a fairly short EP but contains some of the greatest performances of voice and instruments of all time. There are four "slightly less incredible" tracks with the two standouts being "North to Nothing" and "I Guess We're Done." These two songs should be mandatory listening. Seriously life-changing stuff.
Well that's it. I hope you enjoyed this, expect more of me showing off even more material possessions for no reason. The next groups of my collection will be indie rock, dreampop/shoegaze, metal, and then whatever is left. Thanks for reading!
