Vaginas Suicidas (ska-punk rock) is a band originally from Tijuana that began playing in 2001 until 2009, the year in which we took the breaks that family and personal life requires. The idea came from Dulce (guitarist and trumpeter), who at that time played with Natural y Esos Güeyes, bands where a male environment predominated. She comes up with the idea of exploring what it would be like to make music by girls and, above all, among friends. The first lineup was Dulce Moya (guitar and trumpet), Miriam Rigby (vocals), Sofía (bass) and Mauricio Hernández (drums). Our first gig took place at the Café Literario de Playas in November 2001, alternating with Esos Güeyes and other bands. A few months later, Keyla Zamarrón joined on second guitar and Kitzia Zataráin on bass. Throughout this story, other musicians and friends have collaborated, such as: Judy de la Rocha (Judy Moody), Mónica Pasaye (Hell Dandys and La Beat Cantina). Also, others that have entered the drums, such as: Panchito (Canseco) and Ernesto Cholopunk (Lid Kafig Zucht), etc. Later, a jam was organized at the Moustache (2018) where several bands from bands such as Manos Sucias, Hell Dandys, and, of course, us. At that event Keyla met Leslie Rudegirl and, based on the friendship and the tremendous notes that emanated from her Sax, we decided to invite her to collaborate, as well as Monica, who had previously played with us. In 2019 we closed the cycle again with a great event in Mexicali; After that came the pandemic and the rest is history. In 2024 we resume the pandemic pause and we have played several times, and we have events coming up. We have played at the Cervantino International Festival (2004) as coladas and we have opened for Maldita Vecindad, Sekta Core, Espécimen, Barra Brava, among other bands that we admire. Music has always been a structural part of who we are, as music lovers we were born and will grow old with this always latent drive, in addition to the friendship that continues to create memories, so we want to continue feeding our history among lifelong comrades.
