Tonight

Good evening all, I'm currently reporting live from the trenches of Ramadan. I apologize for the lack of posts, I really only make these whenever I'm in the mood for a little creative writing. Today I wanted to share a fun little story about how tonight went because of the aforementioned writing mood and the fact that it was a nice crisp Mach evening and I want to record some of the more understated joys I get to experience.

So, lately I've been getting into Pokémon Go. Yeah, yeah, aware its peak of relevancy has been eroded down to a stump, but I've always been a laggard when it comes to these things (that's a real word not a slur I promise) and I've only recently started dirtying my hands with Pokémon Showdown having fully completed PokéMMO. Right, so I had some time to spare after having completed an exam today so I spent the time trying to catch a Dynamax Cryogonal (my favorite pocket monster of ALL the pocket monsters) and got my ass whooped every single time. Still managed to have some fun with my Alolan Vulpix and it was lovely walking weather, thankfully, and headed home from a day of rigorous studying and mobile game ass whooping to relax until iftaar. Given that it is Ramadan, having to wait until iftaar to eat or drink can be pretty taxing, and heading home allows me to unwind and shut off until we finally get to eat at sunset.

Sunset arrives, I head downstairs and the folks had ordered plenty of Mediterranean food from a pretty nearby restaurant that we visit whenever something special happens or if we're in the mood. Everybody's sat down, I'm chilling and fucking up my kebabs and talking with my older brother, but my little sister seemed to be a bit upset. She's the moody type; she's always one to start an argument that my folx are too clueless to resolve properly and she's always one to leave said argument bawling her eyes out. As I'm overhearing her and my mom bicker, I hear her argue that the food she got was too spicy and not what she wanted (she usually eats these grilled chicken tenders over rice but, on accident, they had gotten the spicy version) and all the usual tell-tale signs that something's gonna happen and things are gonna get loud. Usually I'm the older brother in charge of calming her and whichever parent set her off down after an argument happens, but frankly I was having a really nice time and I didn't want the situation to sour. I got up, said I'd get buy her something else to eat for dinner, and went upstairs to get ready before she could insist that she didn't need anything else.

Bit forceful of me? Maybe, but every now and then when there's a food issue I've found that she'll object to me getting her anything but also that she always ends up feeling better after getting a treat. Nobody wants to come off as a burden, I suppose. Either way, I hopped into my car and drove through the cool air of Spring rising as the sun set to a local fast food joint and ordered her usual favorite off the menu, two mild chicken pieces with an order of fries. I prefer my shit a bit spicier than that, but I had more important matters on my hands than judging my little sister's preference in spice. Namely, the whole goddamn building was CROWDEDDDDDDDDD because apparently I wasn't the only muslim who thought it'd be nice to grab some food from the only chicken joint in the area that serves halal food. I crawled through the line at a snails pace and, having finally ordered, figured that I was gonna have plenty of time to spare. So what do you do on a beautiful night and quite the appetite? Get back in your car and get ice cream, of course!!!

Like... not that far away from the joint is this ice cream place that has room to order in front of the building or through the drive thru. I opted for the drive thru, wanting to listen to some relaxing folksy music and not have anyone pester me from the comfort of my car. I place an order for myself on top of getting her a sundae, and leaned back in my seat, soaking in the nice atmosphere, calm music and... the sound of a kid making a loud noise. I wouldn't say it shocked me, but I turn my head to see who it was and it was this, I wanna say 5? maybe 7??? year old kid pretending to surprise me with his hands clawed up as if he were the leader of a douchey Nu Metal band that everyone wishes they hadn't heard of. Part of me wanted to just keep to myself, but frankly you only get to do silly crap like that when you're young, so I figured it'd be fun to entertain the little dude from the comfort of my car. I act all surprised and the kid runs away laughing to his folks. I figure the little interaction was over and return back to my little meditative position.. and then I hear the sound again. This twerp really, really wanted to mess with the undisputed GOAT of running with a bit, and let me just say that I put on a show like no other. The second time he shrieked at me? I intentionally back up and stick my arms out, as if I'm surrendering. The third time? I jump back in my car seat. The fourth time? This sucker doesn't even know who he's dealing with. I just did what I did the first time and he went back to running away and laughing. His feeble child brain couldn't even comprehend the fact that he got hit with the same move TWICE. Fucking amateurs. Alas, my winning streak was cut short as the car in front of my got all their little treats and trinkets and whatever they ordered. The rest of the night goes smoothly, I get my ice cream, I drive back to the chicken joint, my food came out just as I walked in (it took them like 20 minutes for 2 fuckin chicken strips lol) I drove home and everyone ended the night happy.

As of writing this, I just finished my ice cream (an old fashioned cream soda with a scoop of ice cream over that jawn) and am ready to head to bed. It was a nice night overall and one worth this big ol' entry, I'm proud to have been there for my little sister and it was a bit of light hearted fun entertaining some random kid, even if he's got a long ways to go when it comes to getting a rise outta people. I don't got much else to worry about for the rest of the week, so hopefully Ramadan (and the rest of the semester) will go smoothly from here on out. Goodnight all, this is Pr. Fly signing out.
