Small benefits this Ramadan for Muslims

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

We are already 10 days into Ramadan and I wanted to make this post as a reminder to any Muslims on here.

  1. Fasting(الصيام) is not about restraining yourself from food and from water. The Prophet ﷺ said, "Whoever does not give up forged speech and evil actions, Allah is not in need of his leaving his food and drink (i.e. Allah will not accept his fasting.)" Sahih al-Bukhari, 1903. We need to understand this and act by it. If you restrict yourself from food but maintain bad manners, speech, and actions, you are starving yourself for no reason. Make this Ramadan a time of change and worship. Leave idle talk, wasting time, and disobedience.
  2. We must take advantage of this month and be quick to acts of obedience. The Prophet ﷺ said, "Whoever established prayers on the night of Qadr out of sincere faith and hoping for a reward from Allah, then all his previous sins will be forgiven; and whoever fasts in the month of Ramadan out of sincere faith, and hoping for a reward from Allah, then all his previous sins will be forgiven." Bukhari, 1901. The last 10 days of Ramadan contain a night in which worship is better than if you had spent a thousand months in worship[Suratul Qadr, Ayah 3]
  3. The Prophet ﷺ also said "When the month of Ramadan starts, the gates of the heaven are opened and the gates of Hell are closed and the devils are chained." (Sahih Bukhari, 1899.) Now is the time to quit any act of disobedience you have been persistent in. Shaytan is weak now and we are in the best month to do any good deed in. Imagine the reward from sincere tawbah(repentance) and leaving off a haram during this month.
  4. The Prophet ﷺ narrated an example of three brothers who competed in acts of worship, and being righteous. Two of the brothers fought in war and died in the cause of Allah yet the other enters paradise before the two. Why? The Prophet ﷺ explained that the third brother was given a longer life, allowing him to observe another Ramadan in which he was forgiven. (Sahih Bukhari 6470)
Any benefit you received from this is from Allah and any mistakes I made are from me and Shaytan. Allah and his Messenger ﷺ are free from them. May Allah allow us to witness many more Ramadans and be forgiven and made righteous through them.
