Review of Mickey 17

(Hi yall !! I love writing reviews of things and I hope you'll appreciate this one. As english isn't my first language I hope it will still make sense ^^' This review is Spoiler free btw !!)

So I watched Mickey 17 by Bong Joon-ho last week and I overall really liked it. Prior to watching it I thought it would be in the sames vibes as The Snowpiercer by the same director but it ressembled way more a recent movie of his named Okja. It had the political yet irrealistic and grotesque quality that Okja had, The Snowpiercer being more serious.

It was certainly not a boring movie but it was quite messy, some plots did not have conclusion which was a little frustrating, but I felt entertained all trough it. The acting was so good and I was happy to see the actress Anamaria Vartolomei star in it, which was amazing in the movie The count of Monte Christo. 

I found it interesting that the villains of the movies, a dictator and his wife, were considered to be inspired by a different political figure depending on where the viewers where from. For example an american viewers could see some part of Trump or Musk in the character, while Bong Joon ho has explained that an italian journalist has asked him if the character was inspired by Mussolini. I personnaly recognized some aspect of the villains in my own president, as a french person. Bong Joon ho has explained that he wasn't inspired by a person in particular and have himself seen that "as the film portrays various political nightmares and depictions of dictators viewers appear to project their own history onto them.". This character, played perfectly by Mark Ruffalo  has been the embodiment of this rise of autoritarian (and far right) ideology, one we should all fight together against as it is in the end a globalized issue.
