"i'll never let this go, but i can't find the words to tell you..."
since 2025 marks paramore’s official 20th anniversary, i thought i’d briefly highlight 20 of my favorite paramore songs leading to the day (the 21st week should be their anniversary, if i stay diligent)! most (if not all) of them will be from the awkif (all we know is falling) to brand new eyes eras, as those are mainly the ones i’m familiar with and listen to the most. i will also be including songs from the unofficial b-sides and summer tic ep!
first up on my list is my favorite paramore song of all time, never let this go. it’s the sixth song on their debut album, awkif, and i’ve always considered it one of the colder, more subdued tracks on the album. it's also the most comforting to me. something about the series of notes in the very first few seconds of the song always calms me down, even though the song's tempo rises and falls throughout, anxious like racing thoughts. it's probably just nostalgia taking effect.
the lyrics to this song are an introspection, the ideas and words and intentions swirling in one’s mind as they try to figure out just what’s on the tip of their tongue. sometimes, despite truly knowing how you feel and rehearsing lines and actions over and over again in your head or on paper or anywhere else, inaction seizes you. a relationship is falling apart as the people within grow and become different people, but it's hard for them to choose between the dynamic they've known, and the uncertainty comes after the end. while i don't relate to this in the relationship sort of way, the pitch-black depth of the unknown have been with me for some time. the only question is how the distance will be traversed...
what do you think about this song? do you like it as well? hope to see you next saturday too~ ^^
