Tw: Animal death.
A Lament for the Hound
In the gloaming, shadows stretch and sigh,
Where echoes of laughter now cease to fly,
A faithful companion, with fur soft and gray,
In the silence of twilight, I ponder the day.
His eyes, once aglow like starlit skies,
Now mirror a sorrow that deepens and lies,
Each wag of his tail, a whisper of pain,
Foretelling the moment when joy turns to bane.
Oh, creature of comfort, your warmth wraps me tight,
Yet I feel the chill creeping closer each night,
The bones that once leaped through fields of delight,
Now tremble beneath the cold pallor of plight.
Through halls where thy footsteps once danced with glee,
Now lingers a shadow, so dark and so free,
The echoes of pitter-patter bound to grow faint,
A haunting refrain that my heart cannot paint.
In dreams, we have chased through ethereal streams,
Yet waking brings sorrow, unraveling seams,
The specter of loss looms, a weight on my chest,
As I sit by your side, I prepare for the rest.
“Beloved,” I murmur, caressing thy head,
“For every sweet memory, my heart shall be bled,
You're more than a creature; you are my true kin,
As daylight fades slowly, I tremble within.”
But in shadows and silence, I hear your heartbeat,
A rhythm entwined with the earth and the heat,
The cycle of life whispers soft through the trees,
As time stretches thin like the very breeze.
So linger, my darling, in moments we’ve spun,
A tapestry woven till the last thread is done,
For love engraved deeply shall never decay,
Though fate draws the curtain, I’ll carry your stay.
In the stillness of night, when the stars aren’t enough,
I’ll find thee in dreams, in the realms we are tough.
Your spirit entwined in the echoes of light,
For even in de
parture, our bond shares its flight.
