favorite things/concepts right now (nov 2021)

victorian mourning dolls. in the 19th century, death tolls among infants and children were pretty high. so it became a customary practice during mourning to create a doll in the deceased child's image, and to lay the doll on their grave. the victorian era held some pretty interesting customs surrounding death and grief, like keeping a loch of a deceased person's hair and fashioning it into a ring, or more popularly, a necklace, to carry around. it was also the victorian era (i believe) that popularized wearing black to funerals and during periods of mourning. the victorian era also gave rise to "post-mortem photography," where one would have photos taken of deceased relatives and children, dress them up as if they were living, and take their photos. kind of sick but cool.

Jasmine is one of my fav writers/poets. her work has inspired me a lot in my own writing and this short story of hers is really beautiful. i would like to put a warning on the story though; it has heavy central themes of being in rehab, drug and alcohol addiction, and dead relatives. pls check out her tumblr for more cool poems and short stories. shes one of my favorite blogs to follow.

shakespeare gardens. these are a type of garden that are created using the number of flowers that have been mentioned in shakespeare's sonnets, plays, etc. of which there are over a hundred!!! this website includes all/most of the plants mentioned in his works by play and poem.

goldfish. i mean wow. just look at these babies. these arent even all of the most beautiful types of goldfish.
