REVIEW #14: Volume 11Â
Content Type: MangaÂ
Media/Franchise: Case Study of VanitasÂ
- OOOHH new Archiviste character? 👀 super love her character design btw, I'm excited to know more about her story!!Â
- WAAHH Astolfo's backstory... 😠bro has gone through so much trauma as a child and my heart aches at how much this has affected him. like he carries so much guilt at having survived, and now he projects his insecurity of having made friends with a vampire onto other people, so he can't ever forgive himself nor anyone else... he's so deep into his own hell and I feel so bad for him 😔 I admit that I didn't like Astolfo's character at first and I still have my qualms about him but it's terrible how his brain has just been fucked up to an insane degree, and meanwhile the church is using him to their advantage to slaughter more vampires like?? he's literally a kid who's traumatized and they're weaponizing his rage 💔
- on the other hand I'd love to learn more about the chasseurs and their lore!! I love the snippets we're getting of the highest-ranking chasseur, of Roland and Olivier's backstory, of Gano and the other extreme-leaning chasseursÂ
- ALSO LMFAOOOO Domi and Vanitas bonding over their affectionate teasing for Noé 🫶 I'm so glad that these divas are getting along now AND IT WAS EVEN FUNNIER WHEN THEY WENT OUT TOGETHER JUST TO YAP 😠Domi fr went thru the effort of getting a nice dress + Vanitas got a newly tailored suit just so they can lovingly bully Noé together ✨ in style ✨
- MORE WORLDBUILDING!! I appreciate how Vanitas no Carte has always indirectly tackled the issue of discrimination/ostracization (especially since the literary "vampire" has always been a profound symbol of this), and in many layers too, like humans vs. vampires and within the vampires themselves. I'm glad that we're focusing more on the dhams because they're super cool but also they've been quite mysterious since the Beast of Gévaudan arc 🤔
- I felt so bad for Danté when he instinctively flared up at the dham discrimination but also the way he, Johann, and Riché just accept it?? ðŸ˜ðŸ’” it's also so interesting how the vampires innately discriminate against the dhams (like how Domi started speaking against them and she realized that she didn't know what she was talking about) like there's so much ingrained polarization and prejudice running hereÂ
- BUT ALSO NOÉ MY BABY 💗🥹 I love the contrast between Noé's "ignorance" in that he genuinely thinks it's strange and confusing how vampires treat dhams like lesser beings vs. the vampires' "ignorance" in that they think discrimination like this is ok. like he just genuinely wants everyone to get along with each other, yeap this is another reason why I adore Noé 💖
- OOHH ALSO the new Archiviste character was confirmed to be Marquis Machina... side note but I find it interesting how both her and the Shapeless One take on different personas over time. I wonder what their little tea party symbolizes 🤔
- I always felt like Marquis Machina was a lady like there ain't no way that's a guy 😠/lh BUT ALSO THAT'S SO INTERESTING I want to know why she protects the dhams in the new Miel subplot!!Â
- this will unfortunately be the last Vanitas no Carte review I will be writing in a long while 🥹 I found out that the manga is in an indefinite hiatus because the mangaka MochiJun is not in the best health condition, and I hope that she will get better soon!! 💓 I absolutely adore her works and I'm grateful for her hard work with Vanitas no Carte, and I wish that the manga picks up again because the story is so so intriguing 🥺
