I recently tried Gelli Printing and they SLAY!!! Gelli printing is this low-key magical form of printmaking in art, done using a Gelli Screen (AKA weird floppy material that feels how a Minecraft slime block LOOKS) acrylic paint and clippings from magazines. The process is fairly simple but violently stressful! You use a roller to roll acrylic paint onto the screen, and press magazine clippings into the paint. You can do layers of paint in different colours, with different clippings, etc. but the paint dries fast so you need to be quick. The results are super hit or miss, but these were the ones i found worked best!I also found that sometimes, due to the uneven drying rate of the paint, that some sections wouldn't print at all - I think this adds to it sometimes though!!!!!
All of these have been scanned in with a printer and ran through Photoshop! I enhanced the colours and contrasts to make them fun and bold, and added spots, speckles and crosshatching to make them even MORE distressed. In a few cases, like the 1st and 2nd pieces in this blog, the text didn't print very well, so i photo shopped it in instead!
These were so so fun to make and i hope somebody enjoys viewing them as much as i enjoyed bathing in acrylic paint and having multiple Gelli-induced breakdowns :)
-Solly!
