Folkfest Of The North, a story

literally no one cares but I got to go to a concert last week and I need to yap about it.

After four days of not being able to walk because of sciatica and slipping a disk in my back (thanks to sneezing) I finally got to go to the concert I've been looking forward to since getting the tickets months ago.

Korpiklaani has been one of my favorite bands for a while, and my favorite folk metal band in general. Needless to say, I was stoked when I found out they were coming to Boston. I didn't listen to the other bands playing previously, but I made sure to do my homework and quite enjoyed listening to them the months leading up to the big day.

That morning, I limped out of the house with nothing but a multivitamin, a pepsi, and a babybel in my system. After a 40-minute drive we finally got to the venue, which was a small but cozy music hall WITH THE WORST PARKING I HAVE EVER SEEN WHY IS THERE ONLY TWO-HOUR STREET PARKING AND NO PARKING GARAGES WE ARE IN B O S T O N.

Whatever.

We found a parking garage a 20-minute walk away eventually. Went to a ramen shop before the show and ended up popping into a few of the stores nearby which had a lot of K-beauty and Asian snacks which was amazing. I didn't get anything because i was not about to walk all the way back to the car.

We were in line for a hell of a long time but were pretty close to the front. I played Pokemon go and my cat restaurant game to kill the hour we were standing in the cold. At one point the lead singer of Korpiklaani ran down the line recording us which was cool. I fangirled.

After finally getting in, I zoomed to the bathroom for obvious reasons. My next stop was the merch table which the line moved so slowly I missed the entire first act, Nini. I could still see/hear them, but I was on the opposite side of the venue. They are a Taiwanese/American folk metal group and were very good, though unfortunately they didn't play that many songs. I ended up getting a shirt with the tour dates on the back, and knew I was going to regret not getting anything else but honestly, I was just trying to get out of there cause i moved 10 feet in the line in a half hour, and I felt bad for all the people behind me lol

The next band to play was Trollfest, which i have to say had the best stage presence of any show I've ever been to. There were flamingo outfits, conga lines, making me sit on the floor which i honestly loved because of my back still killing me. They were so good and i would definitely see them live again if given the chance.

Now on to the first of two headliners; Ensiferum. I hadn't heard of them before the tour got announced, but I'm glad i was introduced to them eventually, cause now i am a big fan. They were very good and honestly even better live. I even got Markus Toivonen's guitar pick which was insane! ;-; it has the band logo on the front and 'in my pick i trust' on the back which i love. The thing i didn't love was the smelly ass dude in front of me waving his rank ass armpits in my face and hitting me with his hair. PSA, old spice is not the equivalent of a shower. That and the fact that him and his girlfriend were acting like one of those couples in line at an amusement park. The worst quote i remember overhearing (cause tbh i blocked most of them out) was "i just did a pee and a poopoo does that mean I get a sweet treat later?" It lives rent free in my mind now lmao

Finally Korpiklaani was up, a band I've loved for years. By this point i could barely stand with how bad my back was but we powered through. They were amazing. I danced, i cried, i sang my heart out and didn't want that feeling of pure bliss to end. I also almost got my glasses ripped off my face because there was a girl crowdsurfing and her fingers went under my glasses and hit me in the eye. Ironically the same one i got a tick in last year but that is another story for another day. It was terrifying.

After the show it was already past midnight (thank god i did my duolingo streak in line earlier). It was a long painful 20-minute walk to the car, and an even longer drive home. i ate some chips and salsa, took a very much needed shower, and went to bed. 10/10 would do again minus the crippling back pain. The end.

If you read that entire thing thank you, I hope both sides of your pillow are cold, and you deserve a sweet treat unlike someone else we won't speak of xD

That's cool. I hope your back feels better though. That worry about your Duolingo streak is relatable.
