The Internet Isnt Fun Anymore (YouTube edition)

I MISS OLD YOUTUBE SO MUCH SO I decided to make a whole blog post about it :)

Remember when YouTube was the brand new social media app that let creativity show and everyone used? What happened to it? When did it get abandoned for TikTok and turned into a corporation.Well lets start from the beginning.

The Era Of Skits And Originality

I cant show most skits because :| most were racist or some other sort of bad but we still had these creators like Bo burnham,Fred,Good Mythical Morning, Smosh, Dan & Phil and Wassabi productions.Who were just posting funny videos being themselves.(I guess Shane Dawson and Miranda Sings could count but...like I said in the beginning)

Let's start with Smosh! who basically captures yt at the time

Smosh(or Fred) Can be credited for being the first YouTubers who really made YouTube mainstream. These Creators were teens at the time who made funny home videos and posted it to youtube. The simplicity that I miss where there was no pressure to make it to the Algorithm Or to make money. Just doing it because it was fun way to express themselves. Okay so in reality I wasn't alive for this era so I cant speak much on it so I'll skip to an era I KNOW more than ik myself.

The 2010s DUN DUN DUUUN

OH MY GOSH THE BRIGHTNESS
We should start with what made youtube so fun the unlimited bright exciting videos like diys, challenge videos,The music videos and my favorite THE VLOGS

okay the 2010s had a lot of these aesthetic vlogs with Nikki and Gabbi running that shit but the thing I love about these videos are how they actually really put a lot of effort into these simple video ideas. I see a lot of these morning GRWMS on TikTok but they aren't the same at all on TikTok they just film themselves getting ready or doing a fit check not even talking about much, but oh the girls in the 2010s had you HOOKED they started from getting out of the bed to ending it with them leaving the door. Overall it was so fun and I don't think any tweens have content like this to look up to anymore.

The Seasonal Events

Okay now here's where the idea for the blog title came from
Youtubers DID NOT PLAY about the seasons you best believe they were filming Back to school videos in august, aesthetic tumblr fall videos in fall, Christmas videos in winter, and spring and summer life hacks in the summer. This, well at least for me is why I think life got so boring online. I see a lot of people saying "christmas didn't feel like christmas this year" or "christmas didn't hit this year" yes I know its mostly because were getting older BUT I think if we had the festive feeling with these youtube videos like we did in the 2010s it would help just a little to get us in the mood for the holidays.

Who are you behind the camera?

oh my gosh do I miss when YouTubers would just sit down and talk about their life's without much editing and the STORYTIMES>>

There's not much to say besides I love actually knowing the personality of the people I'm watching. These little sit down videos where they would talk to you 1 on 1 and can actually open up a little were great. (and yes ik the personality they were showing was probably fake AF but I would rather a fake personality than a person who just has non)

MUKBANG MUKBANG MUKBANG MUKBANG

The Queen Of A Mukbang

Bring mukbangs back specifically the ones where they wouldn't be eating like a whole bunch of random food like the "only eating red spicy food" but the ones where they would just film themselves eating lunch or dinner while talking. (None of that asmr type mukbangs).

YouTuber Music

I miss this era so much

And I blame the people for this I feel like cringe culture absolutely demolished any hope of this returning but I HOPE people will find some joy in their life's and start making these again (ty Larray). And not to get this confused with the YouTubers who are actually trying to get a career from these yt mvs, Im talking about the purposely bad ones like the funny ones where they made it by themselves and filmed it in a day. Also honorable mention to the YouTube parodies. (Creeper? aww man)

Challenge Videos/ Pranks

I think a big part of YouTube or honestly the biggest part of YouTube was the challenge videos that everyone participated in.

Trends like the Chapstick Challenge, The Whisper Challenge, The Condom Challenge(not as bad as it seems) and the Eat it or Wear it challenge is what made YouTube so fun to begin with because these challenges were made by relatable people who didn't have a butt load of money so you and your friends could easily recreate these videos at home making you feel actually attached to the videos you were watching.

Lets Collab!

I loved loved loved me a Collab (also appreciation for YouTubers actually posing in the thumbnail)

I'm assuming why we don't see Collabs anymore is because there literally isn't enough YouTubers anymore and the ones that we do have aren't near the same age like how they used to be. Anyways Collabs were a win win they blended fandoms that already liked each other making the viewers happy and they brought more viewers to the channels collabing together making the content creators happy. It was very messy though I don't think any YouTubers who did a collab ever stayed friends.

YOUTUBE REWINDD

I love when YouTube actually knew what the hell was happening on their app

So this is more of a problem with youtube. I do understand cause like I said there is literally no YouTubers on the app anymore so I don't even know how they would do this. But with YouTube rewind being dead and vidcon being dead as well it really just feels like a dead site, compared to the 2010s where YouTube was EVERYWHERE, like vidcon a whole event to meet YouTubers?! and people used to actually go?!? really? even YouTube rewind being a nation holiday....at least for me. I mean YouTubers even got books and not any regular books literal new York times best sellers.

VLOGGERS GET THE CAMERA GET THE CAMERA

I could not make a 2010s YouTube blog without mentioning the vloggers. Emma Chamberlain,The vlog squad, Alex Wassabi, and more I can't think of.
See back then vloggers were set to such a high standard like you better be doing something crazy in your videos and KEEP my attention that's when I liked it but now I actually really don't like watching Vlogs. Vlogs now are kinda boring I get the wanting to watch someone who's relatable but I mean it's boring they kinda just do stuff that I could literally go outside and do. There's so many aesthetic ones like going to my local coffee shop and drink a $15 dollar latte while I set up my camera and you watch me read a book then after this I'm going to a vinyl store then gonna hit pilates LIKE I might as well do that myself (gonna be broke after though)

Youtube IS the trendsetter
(ik you remember slime)

Now here's the summary, YouTube was the funnest place on the internet in the 2000s-2010s. With everyone going there for entertainment and there was A LOT I mean A LOT to choose from. I didn't even get into the gaming community with DanTDM,Markiplier,or PewDiePie and that's only for the earlier years; What about the Minecraft community or the Era of Fortnite. And all the other Eras We still didn't cover like the flex era with RiceGum (supreme haunts us). Anyways I can go on and on about YouTube and how I'm so sad to see what it is today. Hopefully it won't die out forever, we just need the funny creative kids to come on it again. Only for the purpose to make funny videos not to try to get rich.YouTube needs to work out whatever problems they are having on their app instead of trying to compete with TikTok. Like you never saw them trying to compete with vine. Its two complete different apps with two complete different purposes, YouTube thrives on longform so stick to it. Anyways if you want to be a YouTuber do it! and if you don't but still want to enjoy YouTube don't worry I'll save it.

(sorry if the words were hard to read I didn't know how to fix that
