Listen, I get what they were trying to do but it’s so silly. It accomplishes nothing and is overall a net negative for everyone involved.
Now I get the idea to ban phones inside of class, but that was already a rule in place. To ban phones anywhere on school premises is outlandish to say the least, sure we need to talk to our friends more and play more, whatever, but I need my phone to communicate with my family, and when my friends are away I just have to sit and do nothing for the entire break. (I would read a book, but I don’t want to look like a dork)
TLDR, it’s a stupid rule because I need my phone message my family.

On the contrary, I'd say it's actually a smart rule and a good thing for the students, especially so now in this day and age of addictive smartphones and social media ruining teen's lives and shortening their attention spans. It would be helpful to make them all take a break from it for a few hours on most days of the week at the very least.
