Consumerism & It's issue... Starting the no-spend challenge!

I will be blunt and upfront about this, but I, alongside many other people, have a consumerism issue.

My room is currently a mess. It is clean, but I just have an overwhelming amount of things that are genuinely pointless and sit around waiting for nothing. I didn't realize how bad of an issue this was until I was at my friend's apartment and noticed how neat and fit everything was. After that, it made me reflect on what I actually have and I realized that I maybe only ever use about 10% of the things that I own...

Currently, I'm tight on money. It's funny in a way because there's that on going joke where college students live off of ramen to survive and right now that's how my world looks. Yet while I'm eating my ramen I look over at trinkets or things I bought for maybe $30 a piece and just cringe at the thought that I have some useless thing on the floor from the money I could have used on making a good meal.

My spending habits made me dig a hole that I can slowly climb out of if I cut all spending right now. Which leads to the point of this short rant; The "no-spend challenge."

It's healthy to detox once and a while and right now I genuinely need to do this and maybe writing this all out for the world to see will help motivate me and maybe others who need a reality check like I did.

Of course. a complete $0 budget for a month would be insane since I still have bills, food, and similar utilities that I need to survive. So I will tweak with the challenge by adding my own rules:

1. I will prioritize the bare minimum necessities to live (i.e bills, car payments, food...)

2. Limit of $100 in groceries per/mo. ($50 per 2 weeks)

3. If I am to buy something I must first re sell items that I no longer use and/or want

4. Regardless of purchase (not including rent/gas/similar), I will shop locally-owned and/or re sold online and avoid corporate AT ALL COST.

* May be subjected to change but I will follow these rules as strictly as humanly possible.

I want to be able to do this for one month at least, and if I can do it for two then I will make sure I can get a new piercing or tattoo as a reward to myself!

If anyone else is on this journey I wish you luck! Let me know how it goes for you too if you decide to start or have already started this challenge!

Edit:
Found this video that perfectly explains how over consumption can become an issue and how to work around it!
