i feel like my whole life i've watched too many movies and dreamed of going to.one of those and when i got older i've been told about cool places like that. i still "technically" can't go but the couples i've been in have just been sooo lackluster, like i'm not crazy right?? i feel like the culture of going out and parties has been so watered down into being more "aesthetic" and "clean", does that make sense? i feel like any piece of media i see pop up on my feed about "going out" everywhere is just so snotty looking. idk maybe im just not in a good area or just don't know enough ( from nyc ik crazy to say ) but still every time i've gone out it's just been that way.

You're not crazy, nightlife in general has gotten more boring! Though I definitely am super biased cuz I live in Switzerland and it's not really known for its party scene.... like at all lol. If I see that nobody's dancing at a party or a bar, I'll usually be the first to do so just to get things going.

I totally get what you mean. I think it’s social media and the idea that we are all always being recorded and everyone wants to act like the most NORMAL and fun people around. It’s hard to find but there’s definitely still people out there that just like to go out and have a good time!!!

Many things are performative nowadays and lack any emotional value so i dont think you are crazy for thinking its getting boring. It could be your personal opinion only of course but alot of stuff gets romantized and sounds beautiful in your head but when you go out its nothing like you imagined. Depends on the expectation one has and of course the people one is surrounded by.
that's exactly what i was trying to say but i cldnt quite put it into words, its performative more then anything. but ur also right ab the romanticizing thing that's also def part of how i view these things sometimes. maybe its the like years of waiting to be able to go out and when i finally get it it sucks sometimes

i feel like social media has kinda taken the fun out of going out, it feels less organic imo & more about how you look and present
HOWEVER whenever i go to a queer event, diy show, or punk show i always have a blast. just my personal experience
im in nj btw so that might be why

dudeeee yes, i'm not in the punk scene in ny anymore but i miss it sm and i wish i still had people ik to go to shows with THAT was awesome.
