phones in school

if I'm being honest I think we should be allowed to use phones in school but that probably won't happen anytime soon to ever but all i ask for is that we can't have phones then they should make it equal to where staff are not allowed to have their phones either

I used to teach English as a second language at a language center, and I would always let my students use their phones. As long as they worked, I would assign them tasks where they would be able to use their phones. It worked for me. But I can also see why they aren't allowed some teachers don't know how to handle their classes and students don't pay attention sometimes because of their phones. Lol

As a recent high school graduate (class of 2024) and current college student, I'm sorry, but I believe that cellphones have no place inside of the K-12 school setting for students during school hours. I've seen way too many kids be super distracted on them and interrupt the class with them while the teachers were trying to do their jobs and teach the class during my high school years. I think cellphones (and especially smartphones in particular) should absolutely be banned during the school day until the dismissal bell rings for the day and that students would be better off without access to them while they're at school for a few hours a day. And if there's an emergency and/or your parents need to be contacted for whatever reason, then the staff can dial 911 or whomever else may need to be contacted using the landlines on the walls inside of the classrooms, problem solved there.

I honestly WISH my high school had enstated a ban on them during school hours while I was a student there. I think that might have done something to cut down on the number of disruptive students and encouraged more face to face socialization amongst students.

At my school we don't have phones as well and often borrow the teachers phones to do things or ask permission to use the computer lab. I think it's a fine rule because the things I've heard or seen students do on their phones is horrendous...

I may be biased, since I didn't have phone access during school for majority of my high school years, but I think some schools are better off restricting phone access 'cause some of these kids do NOT have discipline. :^)

well in my school it is kind of taken to the extreme to where you can't use it in the hallways either and even if there is a real emergency you cannot use your phone

I get that. I know for my school, during a time where we had to be sent home early, all the students got permission to call their parents and let them know they're coming home early / need a ride back home. Your school might be different, though, so I'm not sure.
