hiya,
so i am currently job hunting and have had 3 group interviews so far out of ? number of interviews altogether in the last year. this group interview in particular was not a great expeirence. Nothing terrible or juicy but really unprofessional and didnt really get anything out of. no learning for future interviews just nothing.
The group interview was at a small town hall where 100 people were all packed together in one room applying for the job. I remember everyone had the same look on their face and we all collectively though "how the fuck are a third of us gonna get this job?". We were given a name tag and lollies? then all sat down together where the interviewers showed us a brief powerpoint of the company, they didnt go over the normal values or bullet point most companies talk about in interviews so you could understand the type of worker they look for. Instead they seperated us into 6 groups and wanted us to work together to create a song using words off their menu they gave to us. Words like burger, fries, pickles etc.
This is when i started thinking "this seems a bit juvenile, huh" andddddd it was. We then had to perform the song we created in 10 mins to all the other groups. Ours did a Destiny's Child All the single ladies version. It was awkward and embarassing but it was over quickly. Then we had to watch the over 5 groups perform, others were better and some were on par with our group.
Then we went onto our one on one interviews that lasted 2 minutes tops. I did my usual interview confidence and explanation of my expeirence and work ethic. But as I got into my Dad's car he said "what the fuck were they making you do in there" and because i didnt want to speak bad of the interview of some weird hope it would jinx my chance of getting hired i said nothing.
I wasnt hired btw.
Looking back i realised how fucking juvenile and kinda pointless that interview was, none of us were given a chance to really show the employers what kind of workers we are or how we would go about situations in the workplace. Instead it felt more like a look competiton, like they wanted to see who would best represent their company purely based on looks. Like that person is blonde, skinny i could definitley see her working for us.
When i went into their workplace i recognized no one from the interview.
Overall the whole interview felt really unprofessional and didnt give us a chance to show off our best work skills and personality, i understand they wanted to see us working as a team but they did it in the weirdest way possible.
