Surely everyone has at least once had that one phase where they feel like:
"Yeah, I'm gonna be THAT person - mysterious... intriguing... nonchalant even."
Unfortunately, some of us are simply not built for that life. Homegirl really thought she could pull that off and here's what happened one day at school (this happened about a year ago):
It all started when I walked into class and decided that, for once, I wouldn’t be my usual self—no chaotic energy, no unnecessary commentary, just mystery. You know, the kind of person who sits in the back, says nothing, and makes people wonder what’s their deal?
So I picked a seat near the window (because mysterious people always sit by the window ofc). I leaned back in my chair, crossed my arms, and gazed off into the distance like I had deep, philosophical thoughts (spoiler: I did not). The goal? To look like a chill girl. The result? Immediate failure.
The first issue was my timing. The teacher called attendance. I didn’t respond right away because I was too lost in thought (aka just zoning out). When she called my name again, I panicked and responded way too loud, like, "HERE." but in a weird, robotic way. Some of the others turned to look at me, which was the opposite of what I wanted.
Determined to redeem that aura loss, I decided to add some mysterious silence on top of this mess. No small talk. No reactions. Just quiet observation. Except, instead of looking cool and nonchalant, I ended up just... staring at people. For way too long.
At one point, I made accidental eye contact with a classmate across the hallway. Instead of casually looking away like a normal person, my brain glitched, and I just kept looking. Not in a “cool, smirking” way, but in a wide-eyed, slightly unsettling way. I wanted to look intriguing but I just looked like a creep. He actually shifted uncomfortably......... ( ╥ω╥ )
Moral of the story? Don't try to force yourself to be someone you're not - you'll end up just making yourself look stupid and feel bad afterwards!
