NOTE: I'll resume with the nostalgic vibes for another blog post.
A Gen Z cousin of mine recently requested my skincare routine.
I thought I would drop it here too, just in case anyone on here is ALSO a lil' bit of a makeup/skincare fanatic. I adhere to the 10 Step Korean Skincare Routine with some alterations depending on my skin, and what all I've got time for.The main thing I want to emphasize no matter what for anyone is the double cleanse (especially at the end of the day to get rid of any makeup), moisturizing (especially in the winter months), and the importance of SPF.
If you'd like to use anything I've listed below, just keep in mind that my skin used to be very oily in high school and college, but now it's moving towards a combination of oily yet dry in certain spots.
Morning Routine ☀️
- Although this is the Oil-Based Cleanser section, I don't use that first thing in the morning. Instead, I just use Garnier SkinActive Micellar Cleansing Water + Cotton Rounds, because I don't see the need for an Oil-Based Cleanser in my routine at this point. 🤷🏼♀️
- Water-based Cleanser: My 💖F A V O R I T E 💖cleanser is PEACH & LILY Power Calm Hydrating Gel Cleanser, but I also like Aveeno Positively Radiant Brightening Facial Cleanser, and Neutrogena Ultra Gentle Daily Cleanser.
- Toner: I love the Peach Slices Snail Rescue Blemish Busting Toner, but I've been known to use Sea Breeze. Lol, but really though.
- Moisturizer: PEACH & LILY Matcha Pudding Antioxidant Cream is my ABSOLUTE go to moisturizer that snatched my skin for the better. Much like my dedication to FENTY Foundation as well as Rose's attachment to Jack Dawson—who she knew for like three-ish days but whatever—I👏🏻WILL👏🏻NOT👏🏻LET👏🏻GO👏🏻JACK👏🏻AND👏🏻I👏🏻WILL👏🏻NOT👏🏻LET👏🏻GO👏🏻OF👏🏻THIS👏🏻MOISTURIZER👏🏻
- SPF: I have several favorites in this category, one being Dr. Jart's Cicapair Tiger Grass Color Correcting Treatment SPF 30. I also like Supergoop! in general, particularly the powdered SPF and the Glow Screen, as well as Neutrogena's Clear Face Liquid Sunscreen Lotion.
And that's it for the morning, because I ain't got time for all 10 steps while I'm trying to get to school. Some mornings, if I'm REALLY running behind, I just hit the water-based cleanser, the moisturizer, and the SPF. 🤷🏼♀️
Evening Routine 🌙
- Oil-Based Cleanser: Typically I'll use the Garnier SkinActive Micellar Cleansing Water + Cotton Rounds again, but if I'm wearing make-up or the Color Correcting SPF, I'll use either Pond's Cold Cream Cleanser or Peach Slices Peach Pudding Makeup Cleanser.
- Water-Based Cleanser: Same thing from the Morning Routine.
- Exfoliator: I'll do this either once or twice a week depending on my skin, and I'll use either the PEACH & LILY Super Reboot Resurfacing Mask or my 💖F A V O R I T E 💖which is the Cup O' Coffee Mask from LUSH.
- Toner: Same thing as the Morning Routine.
- I'm not really into Essences. I suppose it's because my skin isn't mega dry, but my feelings might change someday...We'll see!
- I'm also not really into Serums, but I'll use the CeraVe Resurfacing Retinol Serum sometimes. I'll use PEACH & LILY's Pure Beam Luxe Oil instead if I've exfoliated with the Super Reboot Resurfacing Mask, especially in the dead of Winter.
- Sheet Masks: SHEET MASKS ARE MY FAVORITE IN GENERAL. I'll hit up Marshall's where they have discount masks in these large packs, but my favorite brand for any sheet mask in general is TONYMOLY. You could also just find a sheet mask that contains similar things as an Essence or a particular Serum, and knock 5-7 out in one go!
- I'm not really into using an Eye Cream either, but I am trying to find one for my dark circles. I'm currently using CeraVe Eye Repair Cream, and it's ok.
- Moisturizer: Same thing as the Morning Routine.

Teach me master!
I've always moisturized my skin but I think I fucked my face up when I was a teenager because I would put skin lightener on my face to fade my freckles. Who would have known that now people get them tattooed on (-.-). I think I'm starting to get my first wrinkle and my esthetician says I just need to keep cleaning and moisturizing my face but like IT'S THERE.
I'm not even that old hahahahaha

LOL, but seriously, it depends on several factors. No matter how old you are, I'd say to hit up sunscreen and use that every day. That will help with not just avoiding skin cancer, but it should also help the lil' wrinkle(s) too. I wouldn't hit up retinol/retinoids unless you're almost 30. 🤷🏼♀️
As for your freckles, OF COURSE, that's how it always works! Kind of like my homegirls who over-tweezed their eyebrows to the point of no return in the 00s, only for full brows to make a comeback.

I think all I ever do is maybe micellar water to remove makeup (which I rarely wear), some "brightening" cleanser (what does that even mean?), weird resurfacing/exfoliating pads, and whatever moisturizer has caught my fancy at any given time.
but i don't do it every day, too much stripping of your natural oils/protection. i have super sensitive skin so EVERYTHING that touches it makes it redder and drier than it already is.

Why would a GenZ need a 'skincare routine' lmao, their skin is literally the best it will ever be.

I KNOW, RIGHT?! It's because she was having some of the same issues I was with breakouts and redness, BUT SHE'S 21. I also told her to lay off the heavy makeup, because she was trying to do all of those YouTube beauty influencer looks.
