Today I just got a Laptop through the post! I'd say new, but in all honesty it's actually seen quite a bit of usage. I got the Panasonic CF-XZ Convertible Toughbook, much to the dismay of everyone in my closer inner circle who argued that my 4090 gaming rig would be enough to suffice me. But I don't know, I miss working on things whilst I'm in bed. It's not like I'm running highly intensive programs or anything; I always have that gaming rig there when I want to do those things. I largely just wanted a little laptop that could act as my buddy, whilst also giving that Y2K energy.
First impressions are really good! It boasts a 2000's looking circular trackpad, two batteries, a detachable screen & much more that I'll list in my mega thread. I've honestly missed using worse hardware to run my things; this laptop is going to be so good for that. It gives that 2000's vibe I'm going for, whilst also running my programs pretty well. Unfortunately it only has around 8GB of RAM, with no upgrade bay, but that's more than enough for what I need to do.
The laptop itself I believe is very similar to the Panasonic "Let's Note" series, the difference being that this model was actually sold to companies that deal with heavy industry. This thing can take an absolute beating and from the looks of things has definitely seen wear over time. There's mountains of scratches and bumps everywhere, but the hardware itself so far works flawlessly.
I'm in the process of making it look a lot better and installing the applications that I most desire. I may upgrade to Windows 11 at some point due to the end of life coming up fairly shortly, but in all honesty as long as my applications run I'm completely fine with this for the time being.
Thanks for reading my blog. I'm planning on making a Mega Thread on all the Y2K tech I use daily. This will be at some point in the week so look forward to that!
