Lament For Aspirin:
Of a PH low, it emits a salicylic glow
Born not of fire, ash or smoke
But of a willow tree, extracted by us folk
Medicine of old, known before the baroque
It source lies within the root of a tree with a leafy cloak
For ailments, fever and a headache's croak
Aspirin soothes, and maladies dulled
For a headache is stopped, before it is even foretold
Pyretic highs and arthritic cries all put on hold
Through the power of COX inhibition, aspirin is sold
In chemists, pharmacies, drug stores and such
An old friend of the alchemist, and a hangover crutch
Long live Acetylsalicylic acid
The drug that keeps us placid
In cabinets of homes and bags of us
Aspirin is worth the fuss
