song writing

I really wanna write a song for my girlfriend. i do play guitar, but on a VERY basic level. i have no knoledge of music theory or actually how to make a damn song. i can write lyrics, and i can like make a strumming pattern, but i just think the power chords im using are quite moody and not really kinda love song enough. i want it to sound kinda like suzie chapsitck by green day. can anyone help me out lol
