Social Media & Me

What social medias do I have and how much do I use them? and what still sucks me in?

Instagram - the big bad of my screen addiction. I'm currently 6 months clean of having instagram off of my phone and the results have been stellar. Insta has proved to be the main platform for the current DIY music scene, so for my life I do need to access it on my laptop in order to be in the know on when shows I like to go to are happening. If there was a way to stay up to date without Instagram i would definitely utilize it to further remove myself from the site. Scrolling through stories and accident getting lost in the scroll after a post someone sends me still will suck me in.

Youtube - this was another big culprit of too much phone screentime, deleting the mobile app was a huge improvement. having only desktop or browser youtube has curbed my habits. sometimes i will catch myself getting clickbaited into clicking on a short, and that will suck me in still.

Twitter - This one I've never kept on my phone because for reason to stop myself from scrolling. My amount of scrolling has remained pretty stagnant I will still catch myself scrolling on here and other sites from time to time

Snapchat - I have been able to fully remove myself from snap. I can access it on my laptop to check it occasionally but that's it. I am of the mindset that if you are not actively pursuing romantic or sexual relationships you have no need for snapchat.

Current scrolling indulgents on my phone: 4chan and my RSS feed, i don't have a scrolling problem.

I wish that there was a feature to turn off vertical scrolling feeds (tiktok) mode on social media sites

So the only reason i think I even let myself make an account on this site is so that I could try out being a girl because I have pretty much zero of the confidence it takes to openly debut my queerness so i need an out. but anyWHo i dont know if thats actually counter intuitive to my recent initiative to get off of social media.

I have had a really bad relationship with scrolling for the last 5 years and have had it under control once. I would infinite scroll on instagram, youtube, or worse, snapchat for hours of my free time and my executive dysfunction has rendered me powerless to stop it. But for about 6 months now, I have deleted everything I would scroll on, off my phone, while making the screen greyscaled.

This is definitely the most drastic measure but it has really helped. Most days now I get 2 hours of screen time as a high end. and slowly but surely I feel like im able to finish real tangible hobby stuff. I did get an RSS reader on my phone as a supplement, and I feel like if I am to scroll it's more conscious and less slop filled.

Anyway I'm basically just typing in circles because I'm having contradictive thoughts of trying to minimize everything social media wherever I can but also making a new account to use but also that its better because I can have a personality outlet.
