Hello hello! I’m back after a period of no blogs, I used to post pretty consistently but whatever, this is going to be a mostly informal post with alot of thought dump!! After a year of being on this website (yes, we are officially 1 years old!) After seeing a blog post by Wolviish I decided why not show my process for my short blogs? Without further ado, welcome to Bethology. Enjoy reading!
Let’s start with the list of why I blog!
There’s a lot of reasons why I blog, but I think we should boil it down to why I write and not why I blog. Writing is a really sentimental thing to me, I grew up without a talent for arts and with a barely passable talent in music, I wasn’t a talent at writing either! But I loved reading it. I have this relationship with reading and research that gets me up and running to a point of motivation and productivity. The feeling of being able to feel, see, and imagine things with words and being able to absorb the lessons and knowledge you get out of it is a precious feeling. Like when you feel your heart start to swell that you can’t help but put a hand to your chest as a weak attempt to calm it down when the excitement is already showing itself through a smile on your face.
I admire those who have a talent for being able to string words together to create the most beautiful or gut punching phrase or people who are able to paint pictures in your head or dance with you just by reading it. Even more so, I admire people who take the time to make sure that as you're dancing along their carefully written and edited words you are learning something from it.
I’m not a very descriptive writer myself, I typically reflect on my own thoughts with research. I think my love of writing shows more through the knowledge I’m able to give onto others instead of the feeling of it, to incite curiosity or make others go “I know this!” is the kind of feeling I love seeing in others. That’s why I blog, but don’t get me wrong! It’s not to just chase the feeling of someone else knowing the obscure intricacies of a certain topic or to be able to give the knowledge I have, but also to let it be an outlet for thoughts I am unable to express.
I have a dislike for diaries, they feel too intimate to be posted online but this thing I do sort of acts as my commonplace book. A place to gather all my thoughts and feelings and be able to look into it and reflect and post it online it hopes that someone in the large ocean that the internet is, is able to read it and go “Yeah that makes sense”
Blogging is an outlet, a book, a method of sharing, and for me a reason to keep writing even when I have yet to reach my own level of that kind of painterly writing I often read. \
But this is just the beginning, I haven’t even begun with the meat of this. Without further ado
The Essentials
I’m not even going to lie, this part is of direct inspiration from the person I credited in the beginning of the blog. Shout out to them!
But yeah basically it all starts with an idea. SUPER entrepreneurial, I am well aware.
But in all seriousness it all genuinely starts from an idea. I know when it’s time to blog when there’s a feeling that I just have to say something or add my further thoughts into a certain topic. There was a time when I was watching something and I had to write it out. Though I never posted it, there's a feeling of relief that comes with being able to see where your mind goes when writing something out.
Curious what it is? The Glorification of the Relationship between Odysseus and Penelope.
I had around 5 pages of it written out in detail about the why, when, the background, the how, everything! But all that effort started with seeing a comment on TikTok about Epic the Musical and people saying “Odysseus and Penelope are just like Jorge and Talya! (the songwriter and his girlfriend)” and me going “Wasn’t there a version of the Odyssey where Penelope slept with all of the suitors in her kingdom INCLUDING her son?”
…
…
…
Yeah it all begins with an interesting thought!
Then comes the good part, writing! The writing part usually comes first for me before research, though it's essential to make what you’re saying accurate, it's also important to leave room for subjectivity because as I always say: My writing is an extension of my beliefs and opinions. It is who I am represented in words and I want to be able to accurately reflect that with an addition of a proper background to my beliefs so I don’t just go “I believe it because why not?” There's a reason for everything in my system!
Of course that doesn't apply to everything, for example, I am a practicing witch, by all technicality there’s so much research or thesis backing up tarot cards and how accurate it is but I choose to believe in it because why not?
You gotta make your own steps for this LOL! We all have different systems, mine might not work for yours and vice versa. This is the technique I’ve developed
Now this part you cannot forget, this is essential to the writing and idea process and it allows for your readers to know what the mood is. Vibe is essential for me! I’m not just talking physical, but it can also be how your blog is presented! During my first few blogs I ran with a very blue frutiger aero aesthetic for all my blogs with autoplay music to boot. I’ve since strayed from it because the code for it hid the blog content I wanted to present but I still have the music that I pair with some blogs! For the writing aspect it’s always instrumental playing while I write, candles, hell maybe a game on my other screen to distract. Setting the space not only digitally but in real life for you to write will allow you to capture the vibe of whatever it is you’re trying to say.
Trust me when I say this, some people can tell when the vibes are off. Even when its just text on a page, trust me, the aura shows.
I think that’s all from me though! I hope you enjoyed a short look through my process in writing my blogs^^ I hope to post more blogs for the people to enjoy!
