My CD collection, part 1

Hi everyone!! You know that as someone who loves retro technology and pop culture (mainly 80s to the late 2000s, but there could be exceptions), I would like to share some stuff that explains my love for it, and that includes CDs!

As a Latin American (from Chile) born in the 2000s, CDs were my main form of getting into music, be it original CDs from record stores, or custom ones burned at home. Since my dad bought me a CD player for my 7th birthday, I've been collecting lots of these little discs.

In this post I'll share some of my favorite CDs during my school years. All of them are original from the 90s/2000s

the first 7 in my collection

1. Sade - The Best of Sade (1994): it was a hand-me-down from my parents. I liked this band since I was 6 years old, and therefore this was one of the first CDs I tested on my radio. Later I got into Sade more properly, but I'm thankful my parents showed me this compilation

I loved this in 1st grade and forever, this compilation never gets old

2. Britney Spears - ... Baby One More Time (1999): a late 90s pop classic. My mom used to be a teacher in the mid 90s/early 2000s, and around 2000 a student lent her this album. The thing is, my mom forgot to return it (lol), years passed and I was born.

After I turned 7, my mom gave me this album. At that age, I only listened to it for the lead single, but then at 11 I listened to the full album and became a Britney fan. I've discovered lots of more varied(?) music after that, but this one stills puts me in a good mood. (・∀・)

I was also a huge fan of teen Britney's aesthetic at ages 11-12

3. Bernard Butler - 'Not Alone' & 'A Change of Heart' CD singles (1998): I fell in love with the mid 90s Britpop scene the very moment I turned 13. My favorite bands were Suede and Elastica, but I also raved about Bernard Butler's solo work (BB was the first guitarist of Suede).

There was a moment when I was 11, I asked my parents if I could get a new CD by artists like Britney, Nelly Furtado, etc but they said no cuz "it wasn't necessary, everything is now on streaming" and I frowned. Thus, most of my music was contained on a pendrive until I found about Bernard Butler's solo albums, at 14. I realized the CD singles had some extra songs that I couldn't find anywhere else, so my parents and I agreed to get those CDs online for the winter vacation (in July, my country is in winter from June to September).

They finally arrived in early September, but I was excited to have something new in my collection. They were completely new, unopened and original from 1998. I think that gives them more value or something:

BB deserves more recognition outside Europe, FOR REAL. Please come to Chile

4. These three are hand-me-downs from my parents, all of them originally bought in the 90s. The first one was in heavy rotation when I was 14 (still is), and a year later I added the other ones to my collection

Trainspotting soundtrack, OK Computer & Ray of Light. 3 classics from the mid/late 90s

P.S.: I found about the Trainspotting CD way before I watched the movie (5 years later to be clear, I did it last year and I liked it)

------

That's all for now, soon I'll make a second post about the first CDs I bought (or made) after finishing school. Expect these posts to be quite random (^_^). Have a great evening!!
