I'm not going to fool you, I love fishing games and also fishing in general. I feel that it is more of a fun hobby, like a hobby (of course I am horrible at fishing but at least I have fun), the fact is that both the growth of cities and also the growth of pollution has meant that almost all the ponds in my city are contaminated or fishing is not allowed. And since I don't want to leave my city and also because my rod is broken, I decided to get into virtual fishing. One of my favorite fishing games is Red Dead Reademption 2, but since this is about cowboys and not fishing... I prefer to play Dredge.
Fisch
Well, I will simply say that Dredge is a fishing game...more than anything curious. Basically the gameplay is based on casting the rod, catching many fish and returning to the port to sell them. But this game has something that other games don't, SOUND DISCOMFORT! :D. When I mean SOUND DISCOMFORT! :D i mean that this game generates an atmosphere, not of terror, but of discomfort when fishing at night. Sure, everyone goes fishing during the day, but what happens when there are species that ONLY come out at night and you want to complete a mission or the entire collection of fish?
The story puts us in the shoes of a fisherman who, after his boat goes to hell due to a storm, ends up on a group of islands, where the mayor of the island gives him a boat in exchange for fishing to pay him for that boat. So far everything is normal, you fish, you set some crab traps, you fish more-
Corrupt fish! :D
That's the interesting thing about Dredge, at one point you're not just going to catch normal fish, at one point you're going to find deformed fish, fish that look like they came from hell itself. Which is not far from the truth in this game.
At that same point in the story you will meet a "historian" who will PLEASE ask you to go from island to island looking for artifacts that, when you hand them in, will give you some power to, FOR EXAMPLE, return to the main islands if you are too far away, go faster or scare away the sea monsters that you encounter while sailing (yes, there are sea monsters)
On each island you will face a sea monster in one way or another, for example: On one you will have to avoid a GIANT OCTOPUS, on another you will have to kill fish that control your mind, on another you will have to avoid infernal piranhas and so on. This game is undoubtedly one of the few that has combined a premise as burnt as giant monsters with fishing so well. And let's not talk about the story, which does have its charm and a good plot twist that you won't expect, and since you already know me, I'm not going to ruin the game for you, I encourage you to play it! I really think it could be a very good addition to your video game library!
But then, where is the addition of cosmic horror and Lovecraft that you mentioned in the title of this blog? Well, that element is present throughout the game and even more so in the ending of this one (which has 2), so that's why I encourage you to discover this for yourself since Dredge was one of the big surprises I had last year along with Frostpunk
Well, thanks for reading this nonsense, the truth is I'm having fun doing all this, it's fun talking to people who you don't know if they have the same tastes as you or if they talk to you out of pity (which I hope not). Maybe the next blog will talk about Frostpunk or Red Dead Reademption, whichever comes first. I repeat, I hope you liked it because I did like talking about this, so well, I'll say goodbye for now.
This game is better than: Concord
