REVIEW #1: "A Dream... For Good or Evil"
Content Type: drama track (audio)
Media/Franchise: Hypnosis Mic
- first things first: I am a HUGE Mad Trigger Crew fan. literally inflicted with favoritism disease. all the happy cells in my body do a little song-and-dance every time I see themย
- I have a love-hate relationship with the complex nature of MTC plotlines. like why can't they just catch a break. why do they always have to get caught up with scummy criminals and haunting deceptions.ย
- but at the same time I love how these plotlines just really convey how cool MTC is?? like I admire how Samatoki, Jyuto, and Rio are all intelligent and resourceful in their own ways and they all just get together to help each other out with their goals... ๐ญ๐
- I am so. infatuated. by the way Jyuto is incredibly ambitious and intimidating when he wants to be. oh gosh he's so sexy
- my Jyuto tunnel vision illness is screaming at how proud I am of him like?? the way he talked down Sekirei?? the way he asserted his right to handle that case?? the fact that he's doing this all for his deceased parents and friend?? oh Jyuto ๐๐ย ย
- very physically felt my heart drop at the part where Jyuto gets fired.ย ย
- I find it cute that Rio's still close and in contact with his former Navy troopmates. like hell yeah we love the frenship โผ๏ธ (they're all so sweet to each other lmao)ย
- super random but I also find it cute that there was a junior officer who helped Jyuto out with scouring for information. "I'll be happy to repay you," he said. all the younger gay officers definitely have a crush on Jyuto, I said.ย
- I'm still wondering why Chuokhu decided to back up a massive drug scheme? like what are they getting out of it? Hitaki's reasons for personal merit makes sense, but what's with Honobono and the Criminal Bureau and even Haebaru? I don't (and cannot, for legal property reasons) read the Hypmic manga so I'm not sure if this plot point was explained there
- the backdrop of political/moral corruption that goes on in MTC plotlines is also what really intrigues me like I love how we get to see the flaws in Chuokhu's regime because MTC actively works within the system to uncover each of them
- Jyuto taking down the entire Hanmyou gang on his own WAAAHHH my heart is all yours king <3
- Nemu appearance ๐ญ๐
- I cannot get over how Nemu stubbornly says she doesn't need help in dealing with Haebaru and Samatoki really just goes out of his way to rap battle alongside her. he doesn't even have to think twice. that's his baby sister fr ๐ฅนย
- ok so this is the part where I absolutely fucking bawled. who gave the Aohitsugi siblings the right to wreck my feelings like this.ย
- "so we're enemies now?" "I'm prepared for that" OH GOSHHH I CANNOT ๐ญ๐ถ I'M KAPOOSHED.
- what I always admired about the Aohitsugi siblings is the level of trust and pride that they have in each other?? like I just damn know that Samatoki's going through so much mental/emotional struggle the moment Nemu responded that way but he chooses to say "you choose your path, so stick to it." like deep down he also wants Nemu to find her own strength and be her own person, so in a wistful manner, he feels proud of her for having cultivated her own values and stick to them so faithfully (very much like him too)ย
- I'm also proud that Samatoki has acknowledged this burgeoning strength in Nemu by saying "I won't go easy on you" because one of his weaknesses in pre-TDD/TDD era was protecting her too much to the point where he forgot Nemu had her own wills? so he promises to face her not as the vulnerable older brother but as someone who recognizes her strength and gives proper justice to itย
- and I'm also so so in awe at Nemu ๐ฅน๐ฉท I've always loved how Nemu forges her own path, with how outside of her mindhack she still chooses to stay with Chuokhu, but with the awareness that they're incredibly flawed. she knows that there's a lot to change and fight for and she wants to address these as an individual working within the system, and it's like... Nemu is a product of everything/everyone she has ever fought for. she's a mix of her brother, of Chuo, and at the same time is just very much her own person I'm- ๐ญ
- also I WILL NOT EVER get over the way Nemu calls Samatoki "onii-chan" in the softest voice ever ๐๐ and how she just says "thank you" before leaving... GIRL I'M IN TEARS.
- I find it hilarious that Jyuto has been referred to as a bunny/rabbit 3-4 times throughout this entire drama track. like he really is just the resident bnuy. and everyone got the memo on that. will be calling him "Sergeant Bunny" and "rabbit bastard" (lovingly) from now on ๐ฐ
- if I remember correctly the Katen boss has stated in another drama track that Samatoki reminds him of himself when he was younger. now I can't get it out of my head that the Katen boss and Samatoki give off father-son vibes.ย
- super love Rio for jumping the gun on Samatoki and Jyuto and saying "by the way guys I have a plan *rambles on for the next five minutes*" like oh he's ON IT. Rio you're the bestest
- I will not tolerate anyone who says that MTC doesn't treat each other as kindly/openly affectionate as the other divisions do (especially considering how friendship/family/"bonds" are such prevalent themes throughout the franchise). MTC's core value is literally loyalty and they're all willing to throw themselves into fire for each other without being asked twice. I admire how their companionship is built on unspoken actions for each other like... man they all love each other so much
- "we're in the same boat already, so we live and die together."ย ๐ฅน๐
- I genuinely want to know how the Chuokhu corruption subplot evolves (also because seeing MTC in action is so awesome) and I just know that overthrowing all of this will be such good revenge for all three of them. let my boys have their catharsisย
- overall, I'm left incredibly distraught and amazed at this drama track. I'm intrigued by how much of the story this has shed light on - in terms of Chuokhu, in terms of their personal goals, and in terms of their bond. as always, I greatly appreciate any MTC content I can have (no matter how heartbreaking it can be sometimes).
