reading yap

i strongly dislike reading online. libby is unfortunately the biggest way i can access a large variety of books, and im not big on audiobooks, and I just really love holding a physical copy. there is something so wonderful about being able to hold a paperback (I can never not love and prefer anything but a paperback), turn the pages, and get to admire something physical! e-books make me feral in the worst way ever. it is too easy to skim through because i am just SICKKK of looking at my screen! where are the gorgeous pages, where is the joy it brings me to simply LOOK at the pages.

because of this, I am trying to minimise my reading online, and prioritise physical books despite the holds I've been waiting weeks for on Libby. I want to also buy books well-loved and will check out our op shop! well-loved items are some of my favourite things and I wish to own a lot of these things.

with all that being said, i also cannot devour books in one sitting anymore, so it takes a lot longer for me to get through them. but that's okay, books are meant to be enjoyed❤️ also to note, Fable (ir things like goodreads in general) can really ruin to love i have for reading and make it feel like a chore. it has its uses and is fun of course, but sometimes it's fun to just step back and simply enjoy. no documenting and presenting for people, just yourself and a good book.

this is all spurred on by the fact that I am mourning the loss of my physical copy of Black Beauty that I threw out ages ago.... So now I'm reading the e-book, and it just feels so SLOW!! I can't physically see the progress I am making with pages. It's numbers. I am going to search high and low for a well-loved copy of Black Beauty!

Maybe it's just because I'm addicted to ao3 but I do like e-books. It's also easier and less suspicious to have an e-book open in class than to pull out a physical book. It also gives me the chance to make sure I like the book before I buy a physical copy. That being said, if I like an e-book enough, I'm deff buying a physical copy to reread and maybe annotate later.

that's fair! it definitely is more handy for when you want to read without it being obvious. and oh for sure, e-books are great for the fact that you can read them and if you like them, you can buy a physical copy rather than buy a physical copy and actually hate it!

omg paperbacks >>> e-books all the way!! i can't read e-books even if i try it just doesn't bring me the same type of joy as holding a physical book and flipping through its pages. how are you liking black beauty so far?

e-books are just tooo easy to skim through because there is no joy from it unlike with reading paperbacks!!!! and I am really loving black beauty, I have read it sooo long ago but I don't remember much of it, so I'm a bit nervous to finish it because I feel like there are worse things to happen in the book before it ends,,, but it genuinely is a favourite of mine I think!!
