Movies I saw in January

Since January was a very sparse month for movie watching I elected to start counting TV specials as movies for my lists.

Jan 17 - Nosferatu (2024) - 92%

Jan 21 - Hard Target (1993) - 75%

            DW: The War Games (in colour) (1969) - 96%

            DW: The Stolen Earth/Journey's End (2008) - 97%

Jan 23 - Total Recall (1990) - 89%

             Better Man (2024) - 79%

Jan 24 - DW: The End of Time (2009) - 91%

Jan 25 - National Security (2003) - 67%

Highlights of the month for me were certainly Robert Egger's Nosferatu remake and The War Games. Nosferatu was an incredible take on the 1922 classic, it tried to remake a lot of stuff one to one while also inventing and expanding a lot on the original story as well -- a task I think it did very well. Cinematography, Score and the casting/acting were impeccable -- really fantastic work overall.

Seeing the 2nd Doctor gloriously restored in full colour for The War Games was wonderful. his era has the unfortunate fate of getting neglected a lot on account of so many of the episodes being partially or entirely missing -- I think the War Games recut did a decent job of improving the pacing of the serial, but it did unfortunately cut great lot of scenes that were needed for context here and there, as well as simply some really enjoyable moments.

February is coming to a close, so my reviews from this month will be posted soon, just felt like having January's results be the inaguary post in this thread.
