ive also tried duo 4 learning japanese, but i didn’t like it and the stupid owl is too obnoxious… Σ( ̄。 ̄ノ)ノ
i feel like its better to try and find normal textbooks; n on top of that experience on the internet also helped me with languages, it can teach u how to actually communicate without sounding like the unrealistic conversations used in education (tho ofc u would need to know basics for starting understanding the media)
i also heard that anime is not the best source for learning japanese cuz they don’t actually speak like that or sth… idk, never tried using anime as learning material ^_^;

I used to study Japanese back in highschool. I've slowed down now, but I recommend you don't underestimate YT. A lotta youtubers out there that can provide expert tips. YTers such as Abroad in Japan, and TAKASHIi offer some insightful vids.
YES ABSOLUTELY !! YT is really helpful, that’s basically how i learned english as my second language
