ฅ^._.^ฅ good morning jumenation . . !!
i'm in class doing nothing (again) so i thought, "what better thing to do than to rant about a manga i've been fixated on?". so here we are :3
warning : there will be spoilers for the noragami manga & mentions of death/dying + abuse (yukine's past).

honestly, one of the things i loved most about noragami was the focus on the side characters. of course, i do love the main trio a great deal, but i really like the balance between characters and the way they all interacted together near the end. it made me happy to see takemikazuchi grow from being obsessed with having a hafuri to being alright with being himself and his own power and using it to help others without losing his own personality.
i like that we were able to see some of the shinki's pasts (like mayu's & kazuma's). my favorite thing about noragami is the side characters, i think it goes to show the insanely well-written story that it is. the way kazuma goes so far to save veena and chooses to live as a hafuri even after seeing his own past. i admire his devotion to veena, it's one of the things i like most about him ever since i was like twelve, when i first saw him in the anime.
i like that readers can see how Yato grows as a character. from being someone's puppet and being groomed to think that killing was okay as a kid, to growing up and choosing a different path not only for other people like hiyori, but for himself.. its a wonderful thing and its inspiring.
but if we're talking about growth, i think yukine is the best example of character growth. he went from this stubborn kid who cared solely about himself, to a mature teen who is able to empathize with others and overcome his own insecurities. his desperate need to be needed at the beginning of the series made sense after seeing the way he died, to me at least. when i saw his past, my view about him changed completely. i understood that his deep-rooted insecurities came from the person he was when he was alive. he felt like he was alone and since his dad certainly didn't love him in the way he needed, it put him off when yato treated him so closely even though yukine desperately craved it. he was unable to recieve it because he believed himself to be disposable since yato could always use mizuchi/nora whenever he wanted.
and it hurt a lot too because yukine didn't even know why he felt like that until it almost cost yato his life. yukine's harsh beginnings and sad origins are one of the reasons why i'm such a yukine defender TwT, i'm sorry but i will always justify him, he was just a boy being taken advantage of by a gremlin of a 'father' (yato's "dad").
by the way, i'm the biggest fujisaki (yato's dad) hater, im sorry but they could never make me like him . i understand why he hated the world and the gods since he lost his lover, but he had already lost her through his own callous actions beforehand. and then to manipulate innocent beings like mizuchi/nora and yato for his own gain is absolutely foul. and then to come back years later and try to ruin yato's life (again) when he wants to be someone different is even crazier to me.
i'm honestly just glad that yato was able to do his own thing and i think the fact that yukine still bears the name hagusa is amazing symbolism of him making peace with his past and the things he did. (also i need to rant about yato's form when he used rekki/kazuma because LORD it was one of the best things to ever happen to him ima be so fr, i loved the long scarf and gloves that he got; and his powers???? dude it was so cool, i was fangirling the whole time.)
anyway, i really enjoyed reading it and i'm kind of sad its over but i'm happy with it. i'm glad it got a happy ending and that all my faves are okay :3
