The Damned

I think of the damned and am despondent. In Leather and Switchblades, Johnny Cade tries fruitlessly to end his suffering but the gang won’t stop saving him. Just let him die already! He’s been through enough. Johnny’s Earth is hell, and the gang can’t change that by themselves.

No. Johnny would be in Hell, the location. Johnny would have it worse. Johnny Cade will never come to know my Savior and he will be worse off dead. And that’s the worst thing that happens to him. Without Jesus, he’ll never be free.

In The Outsiders, Johnny dies in finality. He hid in an old church. He saved children from a fire. I see God’s love for me in the gang’s love for Johnny in Leather and Switchblades. 

But they aren’t God. They’ll never know Him. Not unless they are told.
