My thoughts on the Wicked movie

I've been thinking about this for a while, for starters I'm going to give a brief explanation about my relationship with The World of Oz to have some context. When I was about 10-11 years old, I had a huge hyperfixation with the story and everything that went on with it. Of course, I had to read the book before watching the movie; that's wheb the interest died. Everything was fine until I got to the revelation of Oz being fake, it disappointed me so much that I decided to stop reading. Because of this, I never got into Wicked, even though I love musical theater. So, when the movie got announced I didn't feel any particular way about it. To be honest, I didn't know a lot; I even thought Glinda and Elphaba were girlfriends or something.

The common critique of the pasing being off is completely justified, and I think this is caused by the adaptation not knowing whether to be fanservice or have the political things from the book. (I haven't read the book and don't plan to, just know the general information). So, it blends the both of them; resulting in a mismatch of silly, fun moments followed by a gut-wretching event. I'm not saying you can't have both, but in this case, it feels unbalanced and uncohessive.

Also, I am not completely sold in the idea of Elphaba and Glinda being besties. They lack scenes together, which is weird knowing that the adaptation for the first part is three hours long. That is why, in my opinion, the love triangle is completely unnecessary. Imagine if it was Glinda with Elphaba in the scene where they rescue that little lion, the emotional implications and development it would have had in them.

But the music slaps, though.
