I may have no choice but to quit solo music and not for the silly reasons you might expect.

Hear me out for this one chat. I have been at this for seven years. 3 of those years were just to get good enough. the other 3 was where i was putting out good shit. I Like to make synth pop and since i started singing it's just naturally what my sound ended up being although it's very dynamic really and stilll kinda hard to pin down - but I am proud of my albums and EPs so far. Then I did a one off punk release and it somehow did better than everything I have ever produced and it was disappointing due to how relatively low effort it was. It was a good release but damn. My sound is not selling.

Then since coming to University I have watched people put out their first song and get 1,000 monthly listeners!!! AND IT'S ALWAYS ROCK!! I HAVE NEVER SEEN OVER 50 AND THAT WAS A ONE OFF IN 2019! So no matter what, I'm algorithmically fucked because nobody wants my unique sound! Yet I keep running into trending songs on tiktok by artists as small as me, newer than me, in the same style as me! Promotion hasn't worked and I've been doing it for years. No algorithm wants to pick me up. You could say "Hey april make more punk!" I would but I have a BAND for it now so i can perform LIVE. So I need to allocate all my punk to that!

So now my music style in particular isn't selling.. and I can't even switch to the style that worked.. then what the fuck do I do? Don't even say "You should be doing the music for yourself, not fame" cuz girl I don't want fame, I want a following.. and I've been doing shit for myself for this entire time, and maybe I'm going to lose nearly all motivation given as soon as I started making great music nothing changed. Music which takes me years. Then my ex guitarist writes her first song and that's it. Royalties. Audience. I am so fucked but this is my career path so maybe I start studying IT or Finance or smthn
