I am oddly obsessed with old y2k tech, I miss when phones had unique style, and you could actually interact with people outside of social media (instagram, tiktok, etc.). To my suprise, there are many youtube videos that are just people turning on/using old flip phones, and I suddenly feel like a kid watching an unboxing video XD I love collecting old tech and reliving some parts of my childhood, even tho I was born in 1999 and was young when that tech was popular. I just used my older brothers MP3s and their friends let me play on their flip phones. And yes I was the kid that asked "do u have games on your phone(◉_◉)??"
I used my slide phone until 2022, then 2g/3g was shut down and I got my own smartphone. I realize now that the inconvenience of having a dumbphone amidst everyone else having a smartphone is NOTHING compared to the brainrot of doomscrolling, insecurity from new beauty standards, and overall depressing state of social media nowadays. I am so glad I wasnt exposed to that in my middleschool/highschool years. Now I have a cool modern flip phone, the Samsung Galaxy Folder, it has a touchscreen and can run most apps, all while staying simple!
Another odd niche of videos I enjoy are dead mall videos, I just love the nostalgia and chill vibes from them! My mall is mostly dead, but not as dead as others. The only real dead mall ive been to is the Aroostook Mall (Maine), like 3hrs north from where I live (we were in town for my lil bros baseball tournament). It was LITERALLY stuck in the 90s, colors and all! There was a vintage and abandoned Coca Cola cafe, with the lights still on oddly enough. And there was this blocked off shop, but what caught my eye was the paint-handprints of children around the ENTIRE area...Kinda creepy to me yet also calming?
Anyways, this was just my rambling thoughts lol XD anyone else craving y2k nostalgia? Or anyone visit any cool dead malls?
(Bonus pics of the flip phone i have :D)
