The Great Tiktok Destruction of Subcultures

I am so so bothered by alternative subcultures have been watered down to nothing in the past five years. Especially emo, all I see anymore is rich kids bragging about how much merch they beg their parents to buy for them, which somehow means "this makes me a bigger fan than anyone else".

That, or it's mass consumption of fast fashion- you have no idea how much AliExpress Domo clothing I have seen in the last couple of years being worn in full confidence. Does anyone care about the music anymore? Or is it just how many likes you can get on Tiktok for being a clone of everyone else? They are actually all the same. u_u

Another thing I notice frequently from these kinds of people is them trying to relate to me, like sharing the same nostalgia of being a weird emo kid online. But they didn't discover being "emo" until 2020? Like, you have never seen a band crack video before!!

I'm bitter, and honestly pretty rude about this whole thing, but you can't blame me for seeing something I got made fun of for since my childhood suddenly become a trend ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Yet another day of me being thankful that I downloaded TikTok once in 2020 then immediately deleted it after like 2 weeks, best decision of my entire life.

Man I fucking hate Tiktok kids, saying this as someone who was in school and then went through covid. I believe when everyone went virtual. Alot of the bullies and non nerdy pekple discovered alot of niche internet stuff that they then bullied everyone on and become brats over. Invading fandoms dominated by nerds and ruining the communities
