Welcome to the first entry of my new blog!
As I've matured through the years, as well as immerse myself in different forms of entertainment, I find myself latching onto different characters. Most of the time, it's caused by hyperfixation. Other times, it's simply curiosity.
I've spent many hours late into the night consuming media of these characters, eating up every last delicious morsel of content I can find for them like I was starved my entire life. These instances of hyperfixation overloading my brain blossomed into an ability to relay all the information I know about these characters, and pick apart what pieces intrigued me.
Michael Myers, from 1978's Halloween, is one key instance.
Perhaps it's also because of the massive crush I have on him (no shame here), but I find him especially fascinating. Even if I'm not partial to the more supernatural elements added to his character in later movies, I choose to ignore them in favor of the humanity within.
Now, I agree that at this point, Michael might as well be anything but human. The almost uncanny ability to escape the clutches of death are a key factor playing into this. But, I find myself thinking about what he was like before Judith's murder. The little boy we saw in the clown costume, with the 'deadest eyes' (Loomis's words, not mine).
The fact that we never really got an answer or reason as to why he kills is interesting, opening up the floor to a million conversations about his motive. In my opinion, I consider the lack of motivation to be especially chilling. The fact that he kills for no known reason is something that had drawn me to his character.
We never hear him speak, never see into his mind and what he could be thinking in the moment, and that makes his very presence almost other-worldly. As if it was just the aspect of evil piloting a flesh suit.
To imagine that a little boy, something we think of as holding such innocence, could murder in cold-blood is almost unnatural. We have no idea if it was planned, or in the spur of the moment (I consider it to be the latter). He was held in a hospital for 15 years, possibly festering in the aftermath of the murder, and when he escapes he immediately chooses to chase after Laurie.
I would like to comment that while I find Mr. Myers intriguing, I do not condone any of his actions. I understand there can be an overlap, but I am not in anyway endorsing anything that he's done.
Fear of the unknown is a key aspect of Michael's character, something that I find makes him as iconic as he is.
He is, of course, evil itself.

(Let me know if there's any characters you want me to cover. I might have to do some research, but I'll try my best!!)
