GAME REVIEW: POKEMON BLACK

HI EVERYONE!

So I mentioned a while back how I finished pokemon black and now that I am home I can finally review it! I spent a whileee (like 3 weeks) trying to finish this game and balance school but now that I am done, I can give my HONEST opinion, starting with:

GRAPHICS: 10/10

I LOVE the graphics in this game! It was my first DS game and even with that I still love how well it makes use of the platform! The 3D scenes on Skyarrow bridge and Castelia city are beautiful, and I love the little pink flowers that appear in the spring. I mean, just look at this!

Another good point with the graphics are the Pokemon sprites. Zekrom looks SO SICK and they also kindof gave some earlier gen mons a glowup! The animated battle sprites are also amazing.

STORY: 10/10

The story is honestly the high point of the game. It's immediately captivating with Ghetsis's weird speech in the beginning and then becomes WAY more interesting with the introduction on N and team plasma. NGL, I kindof agree with team plasma's mission - some trainers DEFINITELY use their Pokemon for no good. However, stealing is NOT the answer! The story then gets even deeper at the end with the backstory of Zekrom and Reshiram, and then finally becomes absolute PEAK when it is revealed (spoiler warning btw) that N has been lied to and basically groomed into becoming king by Ghetsis since he was a CHILD. Like wow. I honestly felt so bad for him, and when he flew out of his castle I so wished the game would let us hunt him down. He's literally the best Pokemon rival and the entire story is just amazing overall. 

GAMEPLAY: 8/10

The gameplay is quite typical for most Pokemon games, but a lot of new mechanics, such as reusable TMS. However, I don't really have much to say on this point other than if you didn't find any fault with the mechanics in the previous games, this one would be fine for you. The only reason I gave an 8 was because I feel the game is just a BIT too easy, especially with both N and Ghetsis healing you before your respective fights with them. Just feels a bit too lenient for me.

ENJOYABILITY: 9/10

As I said earlier, this game is a bit easy, but that doesn't make it boring! There is still LOTS to do, such as the Pokemon musical, battle subway or even the sports stadiums (all in Nimbasa city!). The game also has a very natural flow and isn't too fast so you don't end up finishing it in 2 days and completing life (I'm looking at you, unpacking!). There are literally 159 new mons to catch, as well as a bunch of older ones post-game, so there is plenty of work for you if you really want to 'Catch 'em all!'. 

TOTAL: 37/40

All in all, I feel the game can accommodate to a lot of different playing styles, whether you want to fill you pokedex, go shiny hunting or just loaf around talking to NPCs (like me!). If you are looking for a chill Pokemon game to play that's a little more user friendly than the older games and a little less jam-packed than the newer ones, then its is the game for you"
