Having Weird Favourite Movies

I always feel like a pretentious a**hole whenever I say what my favourite movie is. People ask you that question and they expect to get a movie like The Godfather Part I or Pulp Fiction, not Der Todesking by Jörg Buttgereit.

Ever since I watched this movie at 15 I knew it was my favourite and in the decade since then that hasn't changed. When people think of Jörg Buttgereit they think of shocking, gross movies. And yeah, his movies are that but they are also some of the most interesting and artistic films I have ever seen.

Der Todesking for me is his best work, poignant, thought provoking, somber and interestingly edited. It will probably remain my favourite, or at least in my favourites, movie of all time.

However, that doesn't make it any less pretentious sounding when someone asks me what my favourite movie is.

It surprised me how recent the movie is! It feels out of time - or existing within its own time.

I thought it was a very modern 70s movie. I'll have to check it out!

It is definitely almost anachronistic that's for sure! If you do check it out, you'll have to tell me what you think!
