In today’s world, social media has become incredibly addictive. It's designed to keep us glued to our screens, constantly consuming content to ensure we don’t miss out on any trends or new developments. For adolescents, this can be mentally damaging, as they often lack the maturity to distinguish between what's healthy and what's harmful.
From my point of view, I believe that social media has become increasingly addictive and is designed to make us consume as much content as possible, so we don't miss out on trends and new things. Adolescents suffer mentally because they don't yet have the maturity to differentiate between what's good and what's bad. Also, as a girl, I notice that girls are more impressionable than boys, although boys are affected as well, just to a lesser extent.
Take the obsession with the perfect body, for example: many teenagers turn to steroids, while some girls stop eating or follow extreme diets, like the Korean diet, hoping to lose 10 kg in a week or achieve a star-like figure. However, these celebrities spend hours in the gym or have undergone cosmetic surgery.
Social media often shows only unattainable aspects, things we end up envying: an ideal relationship, material possessions like the latest phone or a villa. But in reality, it's all a facade. We don't see the truth behind these images.
I also want to mention the phenomenon of "self-harm," which can be fueled by social media. If you've ever heard of cyberbullying, you probably understand what I'm talking about. It's when people tear you down online with words they would never say to your face. These comments make you start questioning your own existence.
Choose your hard, would you rather live a real life that makes you happy, or a fake one that pleases others?
Stay safe, readers. Love you all.
XOXO,
Your friend, Ilham
