I am a Gaijin Gyaru (Foreigner Gyaru) and I am still pretty new to this community, I think most people would consider a year ‘baby gal’ status. One thing I can say for sure though is i'm educated, so it’s very frustrating for me when I see people who have been in the community longer than me knowing less than me. Of course it should be a common practice to simply learn the history about the LIFESTYLE you’re indulging in.
On the other hand I think it’s important to acknowledge that 90% of these people i’m talking about are children. I can speak from personal experience that when I was little I attempted to be Goth, it’s definitely a good thing I didn't post online back then because I would’ve been absolutely chewed up and spat out by real Goths. It was still such a nice time in my life for self expression, despite not doing everything right or delving deeper into the style I was just having fun, and that is just how a lot of younger people are.
As i’ve matured and strayed away from the “poseur” mindset, i’ve observed that this is common in the Gyaru community. Gyaru started in the early 90s, so it wasnt always an online thing. I think thats what gives Ganguro a much more authentic feel. Gyaru is different from more known alternative styles, since its much more lifestyle + value based, so people are very protective over its integrity which I HIGHLY agree with, if you don't have the resources, time, or passion then the style simply isnt for you. Our committed baby gals just need a helping hand, especially our younger ones. If they have their heart in the right place, I think it’s definitely worth helping them grow in their Gyaru journey, and the Gyaru that don’t will end up retiring from the lifestyle anyway, we should focus on uniting to help each other rather than divide ourselves due to poseur culture.
