Romanticism: Shoujo girl spring edition || Shoujo girl guide!!
With sping just around the corner, many girls (including me!) are brought back to the 2000s shoujo manga/anime feel. The carefree nature of the characters, their perfect daily life full of excitement and cute moments between friends and the male and female leas, the aesthetic of the animes themselves. Whats their not to love? For the girlies who cannot live a boring life, this is a guide for you! I'll be focusing on the wardrobe, life style and routines, makeup, habits, mindset and more!
But first... what is the shoujo girl aesthetic?
"Shoujo" refers to a genre of manga that has themes of romance, slice of life, personal growth, teen struggles etc. the shoujo aesthetic tends to be very soft and delicate. girls is shoujo animes tend to have very elegant designs and a very soft detailed aestetic.
Mindset: the key to a romanticized life!
Lets be so fr here, you cant truely live like a shoujo girl if your going to be self depreciating and constantly complain about what you dont have or things going on with your life. I know even the cutest shoujo girles have their moments, but the difference between you and them is the way they handle those things. You cant be negative because everything happens for a reason. Whether it be someone elces fault you learn from your mistakes and experiences. Here are some things you can incorporate into your mindset to cause a positive change in the way you view things:
- Pay attention to the little things, listen to the birds chirping, look out the window and look at the environment around you, take a walk outside, be more observant and etc. when you notice these little things in the world you cant help but appreciate it more.
- Never give up, as cliche as it sounds you dont see shoujo leads give up on their love even when everything goes against their favour. You can do anything you put your mind too.
Habits: die hard, so why not make them good ones?
Some of these girls you see are absolute academic weapons while having packed schedules. If they can be busy as hell and still come out on top, so can you. Here are some tips how:
- Create a work/school life balance by having a daily routine, try not to get too ticked off when its disrupted, you can always get back on track.
- Study daily. It doesn't matter if you have homework or not whether it be for 30 minutes, and hour or 5 hours, as long as your absorbing information and being at least semi productive with your free time you're more than good.
- Exercise; you dont have to be a gym girl or be doing heavy workouts everyday. By just taking time to exercise whether it be by dancing, going for walks, yoga, do some pilates ot getting active in a sport. Anything that keeps you active and healthy.
- Do what you love! Don't let a routine restrict you from not doing what you enjoy, and incorporate things like relaxation into your routine. Your not a idol who has 30 million things to do in a short time span, so take the time for yourself.
Wardrobe: shoujo female lead edition!
Many female leads in shoujo animes are the literal embodiment of the spring season, often wearing pastel colours and light shades to amplify the vides of the anime. When outside school uniforms, they wear simple yet feminine outfits that really compliment their beauty. Some staples you'll often see in shoujo animes are:
- Pleated. maxi, and very long flowy skirts, often in light colours
- Light coloured feminine tops, often in baby pink, pastel yellow or while
- Cute while/flower printed dresses
- Cardigans in light colours, specifically a light beige
- Jeans, usually a medium/light wash
Makeup: the shoujo female lead look >_<
All shoujo girls, or most at least, always look so effortlessly beautiful. Even if they're not often recognized for their beauty, or even said to be the opposite of that, you as the viewer can't help but be baffled at how little recognition these girls' beauty gets.
In this case, you're the effortlessly beautiful shoujo girl who likes putting on makeup to not only enhance her good looks, but also for fun. So, based off what your favorite shoujo girls look like, this is what I'd imagine their makeup routines to look like!
- Good skin prep! Make sure you're cleansing your face, applying skin care on damp skin and letting it all absorb and dry before continuing on with your makeup. Good makeup means nothing if your skin's health is poor, so take care of yourself!
- Light base; use a lightweight foundation/only concealer to cover up any spots you might want to, light bronzing, blush under the eyes on the apples of the cheeks + tip of nose, highlight on nose bridge/nose tip, above cupid's bow, inner corner of eyes <3.
- Use a dewy, hydrating setting spray to make sure your skin is always hydrated.
- Try manhua lashes/just make your lashes really long and fluttery. (pro tip: use a spoolie to separate clumped lashes).
- Clear brow gel + lightly fill in brows if you really wish!
- Don't overline your lips! Instead contour under your bottom lip and at the center of your cupids bow, as well as outer corners of your lips, in order to make your lips look more naturally full!
- Invest in rom&nd/clio lip tints, and good drugstore glosses and liners that are close to your natural lip colour for that perfect pouty look
