Constructive criticism
Helps the person to improve by offering specific, actionable suggestions. Delivered respectfully and thoughtfully, focusing on the work or behavior, not the person. "Your essay has strong ideas, but organizing the paragraphs more clearly could make your argument even more convincing, this is how you should do it... [explains]"
Destructive criticism
Belittles, discourages, or expresses frustration without offering solutions. Harsh, personal, and negative, focusing on flaws without guidance for improvement. "This essay is a mess.. you clearly don’t know what you’re doing." (never explains how to fix their essay nor points out what is wrong)
Constructive criticism helps people grow, while destructive criticism usually just tears them down.
