Hi all!
I just wanted to let everyone know that my new song "Squatter (By the Shore)" is out on all platforms! It's shoegaze with screaming if that piques your interest. Linked is the version on Spotify but you can find it everywhere. There is even a music video on YouTube! :)
This is my first release under this project since the departure of our bassist and it becoming (at least for now) a solo project, which has given me a lot of time to think about things. This release is built upon the reflections I have done since Jurnee's departure. Obviously, there is a stylistic shift as the project now has only half of its creative influences and now I am the one writing everything, but there are also changes that happen that you don't immediately realize. You're no longer bouncing lyric ideas off the same person and fine tuning them according to their feedback; you're no longer listening to mixes over and over again with them to try to make them like the heroes you share. You aren't talking with them as much about your life, processing things through each other's lenses and translating that into music. There are a lot of things that change, and it all affects the art you make. This song and upcoming album seek to embrace and explore that change.
In light of Jurnee in the past being the bassist of Atria.0, I decided that for this album I won't be using any traditional bass guitars. For this song (and most of the album) I have opted to record with a two-string bassitar and a slide, similar to those used by Morphine and The Presidents of The United States of America. I haven't seen this done in shoegaze before but it helped contribute a very floaty feeling to the tracks, not keeping them grounded like Jurnee's bass often would.
I hope you find enjoyment in this track. More will come soon.
Stay Loud,
Dayton
