ipod gen 7, not even slightly touched

about 2 years ago when i visited my grandma, my uncle found an old ipod from my other's uncle closet, i got it as a gift, but i assume that this ipod has been stolen a long time ago (knowing my other uncle). i didn't touch it since, well, maybe once. now i bought a lightning cable (as i don't own any other apple devices, i gave away the cable that my uncle gifted me, thinking that i'll never use it again) and plugged it in, downloaded some songs and surprisingly - it works as it was never touched, although the battery sucks, like in all apple devices.
