Week 2 digital detox(kinda): thoughts on week 1

so its been like a week since ive started to transition from using my phone less pc more.  im not sure if digital detox is the right word for it but yk whatever its the word IM USING OK BACK OFF  I thought id give an update now that some time has past and share my thoughts/what ive been up to this past week

I started off slow, i turned on the greyscale filter on my phone and deleted youtube so Id be forced to use my pc/ipad to watch anything.  I think itd be worth mentioning my goals rq:  my goal is to decentralize everything from my phone and spend time doing stuff instead of doomscrolling.  My goal isnt to NOT USE SCREENS EVER!!!! but to just be doing MORE.  anyways, barely using screens cant be an option for me seeing as I do online school, dont have a job yet and barely have any physical media to entertain myself.  so unless i want to be bored out of my fucking mind all day and watch the dust collect on my ceiling im not eradicating every screen in my life

so far ive been doing good on not going on my phone as much.  I go on their occasionally to reply to my friend on tik tok, but if i can help it i try to talk to people on my computer.  The only screen time i use it for these days is for reading AO3 cuz nothing can beat cacooning in the corner with dim lights and reading a good fic SORRY not sorry

I also added a screen saver to my pc, which btw guys YOU CAN STILL DO!  i watched a vid and a guy was all like i miss windows 7 customization, screensavers blah blah but you can still have a screensaver, in fact all of them look kinda old so i think theyre just the og ones ported over.  I use the ribbons but i was tempted to have it as bubbles or the 3d text.  I set it to turn on after ten minutes and its useful in the way im less tempted to go back on if it looks like it isnt ready for me to use

Ive been bored more often, but i dont think thats a bad thing.  Ive been trying to give myself more time to think, taking stuff slower etc  Ive been using spacehey and other stuff more too which has been fun.  I remade my layout a few days ago and that was a fun project, i missed how fun it is to understand and tinker with something and the pure dopamine rush you get when you finally figure out the problem and how to solve it NOTHING BETTER UGH!  ive also been surprisingly taking more baths, i figured if i go in with just myself its a good time to let my thoughts wonder and get some meditation in(which for the life of me i cant do because my brain always just pops in with the most useless or embarrassing moments EVER but i still try )

Ive also been a bit better at getting my homework done.  i still NEVER feel like doing anything but i recently realized that i can't just fill my day and turn my brain off anymore, i have to be here and be present so i might as well do something and this shit needs done.  im still not great at being productive but ive been better so score i guess

It hasnt been all great, like i said i get bored often and im prone to understimulation and the spirals that leads you to but ive been better at redirecting that energy into something.  im essentially relearning how to entertain myself because i cant just space out and do nothing.  Ive also noticed that ive been WAY more tired this past week?  Which i wasnt expecting, ive been sleeping in taking more naps and also having a harder time going to bed because ive been taking mroe naps lolol My brain still craves that easy dopamine from scrolling but im trying to replace it with doing things like replying to other peoples blogs, practicing more art, keeping a common place book etc

I guess thats a good segue into talking about what ive been replacing what id do on my phone with.  My ultimate goal is to phaze out my phone, only keep it for cashapp or something.  Like ive said, ive ordered a flip phone (and that should be here in little over a week!! which is crazy cause by then a whole other month will have passed oh my god this year has been going quick) but ive also started replacing other functions of my phone with other stuff.   I have this old 2001 sony cybershot that was my moms, then my sisters, and now mine.  Once i get my usb mini cord im going to start using that and my lovely lovely lovely lovely kids cam for taking photo and videos.  

Ive also started a common place notebook, which is just a notebook that you use for everything writing down notes thoughts keeping pictures doodling etc i repurposed my practice sketchbook into it so now i just use it for everything!  Like ive said,ive been replacing the social media i used on my phone with my pc.  Ive also brought my 2ds out lol  I know i can play games on my pc but the 2dsxl is more on the go if i need it.  I bought a card reader in hopes of reading the memory stick on my camera (it didnt work which is why i bought the cable instead) but i found my dads old microSD adapter and my card reader had a slot for that so on a whim i thought fuck it and jailbroke it last night.  It was technically ALREADY jailbroken but i accidentlly updated my submarine game or whatver and hadn't been able to access homebrew for a while.  So sometime this week im going to be fucking with that and customizing it.

Conclusion?  Week ones been going good so far, im using my phone less (only doomscrolled once for an hour on tik tok cuz sonic content what can i say) im doing a bit more of my hobbies, im thinking more or trying to and i have hopes for this next week.  Im considering starting a video vlog on bitview to pass the time some more(and also help me stay committed in a similar way to this lol)  im also just fascinated with 2000s culture and webcam blogs was a big starting premise for those old slenderverse args sooooooooooooooooo  ive been way more tired and insomnia prone(not that i wasnt before lol) but overall im pretty happy with my progress.  if you guys have been doing anything similar let me know in the replies, im interested to see how other people's journey have been :pp
