I believe that space exploration is one of our greatest feats that our species has accomplished. To look at our home which we are designed to be bound to and saying "No, we want more; we want to explore elsewhere" is, honestly, metal as fuck.
One of our biggest accomplishments in this era of exploration has been (close-)contact with extraterrestial bodies. Putting man on the moon, flying by Jupiter and Neptune, putting a rover — no, MULTIPLE rovers — on Venus and mars... makes me wonder if God really designed us to stay bound to our planet.
Of these, the Opportunity rover has been interesting to me. But every time I think about it or research into it, I remember that it's stuck there for possibly forever. I know it doesn't have any feelings, but it's hard to imagine that it isn't a bit sad about this. NASA probably felt the same; the last data we sent to it is Billie Holiday's "I'll Be Seeing You", and I just think that's a sweet gesture for a thing that will never comprehend that appreciation. Shows the values our species has, eh?
Thank you Opportunity, for all of your service. I'm thinking about you a lot.
