☆ Anime with my Boyfriend (August 2024-Mid February 2025)

My boyfriend and I have been watching a lot of anime together and he made a post about it, so I decided I want to make a post as well. So here is a list of anime we have watched together and what I thought about them 

Soul Eater

9/10 Completed

I have been a fan of soul eater since I was 7 years old, but this was my first full rewatch in a long time. Even after so much time I deeply love this show, despite it's flaws. I'll get the bad stuff out of the way first. This anime has a lot of sexual humour that ages poorly and it's main fan service character has lots of fan service moments that hinge on her exposing herself to a minor. I'm not very comfortable with Blair on any and all levels. Now that that's out of the way lets get to the good.

The characters and their dynamics with one another are still AMAZING nearly 20 years later. The action and animation is still fresh and some of the best that has come out of the industry without a doubt. Some of my old favourite characters continued to ride strong. Stein, Justin Law and Death the Kid have been long time favourites of mine. Some new favourite characters though would be Crona, Tsubaki and Mifune. It was a marvel to experience this whole anime once more. My favourite part was most definitely the music. My god this soundtrack is unmatched. The different genres blend in such a fascinating way. It really is my hope that anime adopts more soundtracks like this one.

Princess Jellyfish

10/10 Completed

This was another rewatch for me, but my first watch was in April or May of 2024. This show is FLAWLESS to me. A cast of amazing characters, great intro and outro, amazing animation, fun concept. This show truly has it all. The only thing I wish it had was a kiss. Tsukimi is such a relatable character to me as an autistic person with a dead mother as a child who grew up grappling with expectations from society, especially on appearance. her character arc is truly so wonderful, though I enjoyed every single character in this show. It's so short and sweet. The characters in this are autistic, but in such an authentic way. It's some of the best rep in any show, even ones that openly state that the character is autistic. I adore and love the entire sisterhood. I couldn't suggest this show enough. 

Mashle: Muscles and Magic

8/10 Completed.

This show was a first time watch for me, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. It was very fun through and through. A couple things hold it back from being a 10/10 for me. It's meant to be a parody of many things, but sometimes while trying to be a parody i find it just.. does the things it's trying to commentate on. The worst offenders being the fact that all the female characters in this show SUCK. Often times I find them annoying and their powers or personality revolve around men, male approval or how attracted someone is to them. It was truly something that grated on me. I'm also quite sensitive to high pitch voices so I found Lily Pichu in the dub to be intolerable. Besides the female cast Lance Crown and his sister complex was the worst part of the entire show. It ruins a perfectly good character, but at least Mash calls him on it the first time it comes up...? I guess?

For the positive the action was fun, inventive and insane in a very fun way. The openings and outros burst with style, especially the titular Bling Bang Bang Born by Creepy Nuts. I found Mash to be an enjoyable main character as far as modern anime protagonists go. Favourite characters.. lets see.. Mash, Abyss Razor and Raine Ames. This show felt like dumb fun. I don't have anything big to say, it was just enjoyable.

Bocchi The Rock

9/10 Completed

Bocchi was a really fun show! It was my first time watching, but my boyfriend was doing a rewatch. I enjoyed the characters, multi media shots, music and humour. Another show with a clearly autistic character found in Bocchi herself, but it felt like good representation and didn't feel back handed. I know some people find the social anxiety to be unrealistic, but I think it was  if you also take autism into account.  The way she creates these elaborate spiraling situations and visualizations when faced with problems reminds me of the way my own brain works. The only reason this show isn't a 10/10 was there wasn't enough performances/music in the show for an anime that entirely revolves around a band. I would have preferred the show been a couple more episodes to accommodate the music itself rather than cutting it all out in an unceremonious manner.

Welcome to Demon School Iruma Kun

10/10 Completed, but on rewatch my boyfriend and I got around 11 episodes in.

I won't say much because I want to make a full post about this one considering it's my favourite of all time, but I can't wait to show the rest of this show to my boyfriend! It's something I usually watch around September/October so maybe we will around then or when the fourth season's official release date is out!

Your Lie in April

9/10 Completed, but on rewatch my boyfriend and I are on episode 10.

This one is so heavy, that's the only reason we haven't gotten any further into this watch so far. It's his first time watching, but episode 10 just rips me apart because most of the topics explored are so personal to me. I really hope to continue this rewatch, but I need to be in an extremely particular mood to do so. Those days will come. The only reason that this show isn't a 10/10 for me is once again sexual humour that isn't needed from the first episode or the multiple times that Kaori calls Kousei a pervert. It just rubs me the wrong way in a show about 14 year olds.

Hunter X Hunter

10/10 I have personally gotten to episode 67, but with my boyfriend we just got to episode 12 as of the day I'm writing this.

Even though I haven't finished it yet I know that HXH is a master piece. it has been since day one. The first season really is one of my favourite parts even though others have a lot of distaste for it. I'm always so excited when my boyfriend comes over so I can show him just a little bit more. My favourite characters going into this rewatch are Kurapika, Killua , Pakunoda and Pokkle! I wonder how much that will change! : D
