a long drive flooded by christian music;
earbuds in, blasting my playlist.
parents arguing,
i can't hear it.
a welcoming family,
a 'loving' home.
i don't belong here,
i'm not alone.
everyone's greeted with cooking,
at me--nobody's ever really looking.
my cousin's boyfriend doesn't breathe a word,
his voice goes unheard.
a lovely dinner,
surrounded by blind joy.
my uncle reeks of cigarettes,
he's always worried about past regrets.
an end to the play,
everyone had the 'perfect' day.
my parents fighting in the car,
i never understand why our house seems so far.
